As G7 Leaders meet this weekend, WaterAid is calling for a commitment of at least $1.2 bn on #water, #sanitation and #hygiene in healthcare facilities for better pandemic preparedness and response as per the #Romedeclaration.

Hands are the key carriers of disease-causing germs. Communicable diseases like diarrheal accounts for 9% of all deaths among children < 5 worldwide. Did You Know: Handwashing with clean water & soap reduces the risk of diarrheal diseases by 42-47%? #HygieneforHealth

Its a peak time to have systems approach around WASH in health facilities….this is a basic right of our mothers, newborns and health care professionals

@EssackSabiha says that a major challenge is #AMR is seen as a health issue, while #WASH is seen as an env issue. WASH is a part of one health, #IPC, health promotion, and biosecurity. WASH and AMR sectors must come together to meet the goals of both. #StopSuperbugs @Wellcome_AMR

@WHO’s Kate Medlicott says that while more research is needed, the basics are clear. #AMR is another reason to accelerate our #WASH interventions now. #StopSuperbugs @Wellcome_AMR

To prevent #AMR through #WASH, @EssackSabiha suggests: 1.Invest in WASH 2.Incorporate WASH in disease education 3.Reduce our biocide footprint 4.Ensure that WASH in communities is integrated into action plans 5.Ensure action plans have WASH implementation #StopSuperbugs
