I guess you could say the tax changes have worked... It's made me sell another investment property. But is has meant my tenant had to move in with her son. She couldn't get a rental in this market as her income was so low. I gave her a chance because of her circumstances when nobody else would. Now what? It is not something the anti-landlord brigade think of. We dont have enough social housing. We need investors. Change the system and we will see what happens.

A couple earning $210,000 combined income said they feel broke. People laughed. Then they shared their monthly bills: • $3,600 mortgage • $2,100 daycare • $1,050 health insurance • $850 groceries • $750 student loans • $600 car payments That’s $8,950 before vacations, clothes, gas or emergencies. High income doesn’t automatically mean high wealth.

Unpopular opinion: if ab0rt!on is illegal then a man leaving a girl who's pregnant should be illegal too, if woman can't back out of pregnancy neither should men.

I’ve attended 18 auctions so far this morning in Western Sydney. Half of them canceled, the other half passed in. This is a complete disaster

@ausstockchick Property prices should fall through the fall, and that is great for everyone.

Everyone is talking about Australian property… But people are divided on what happens next. Sydney prices are falling but Perth is continuing to grow. I don’t see property prices growing rapidly in any market over the next few years. Investors are gone, rates are going higher and people are cutting back. That’s not bullish for property. #realestate

@michaelsnape When they sell, it's income. Capital gains is like any other income. Whether you take an income of $100k per year and nothing at the end, or take $0 per year and $1m at the end, it is income.

Claire asks a great q? Hers is a global business, with majority of revenue outside Australia, with global contributors. She employs staff, pays income tax, gst, payroll tax etc Besides an internet connection, what does Aust provide to deserve 47% CGT It is anachronistic
Claire Lehmann@clairlemon

@HowardFMaclean Well, I started my business for $20 (the cost of buying a domain name). The last time it was valued it was valued in the millions. How much CGT do you think is fair for me to pay when I sell it?

I just watched the PM on ABC afternoon briefing. He just said wage earners tax should be treated same as people in business. Self employed don’t have superannuation. The expectation is the value of Buiness when sold will fund that. Is Gov going to contribute to our super.

If your 1970’s home is now worth $1M, you’re on the hook for ~$10K/yr. Based entirely on unrealized gains. That’s absurd for the fixed-income elderly. Property taxes SHOULD be abolished for Boomers. But they should be abolished for everyone else too. Property taxes are evil.
🌘ʀᴇᴠᴇɴᴀɴᴛ⚡@revenant_MMXX

Boomers act like property taxes are some massive burden when it's only a few thousand per year in the vast majority of places. It's the equivalent of coming up with a couple hundred bucks a month. These are the people lecturing you about buying a sandwich.
