A few months ago I was sitting on a bench in Tel Aviv with a colleague, and an older Israeli man came up to us and asked if he can sit with us. We said yes, so he asked what we were working on. We said we're making a film about the West Bank. "What do you think about the Arabs?", he asked. Instead of answering, I asked what he thought. "A good Arab is a dead Arab", he answered. This was said 5 minutes into the conversation, to a complete stranger. This is a normal thing to say in Israeli society, even in the hyper-liberal Tel Aviv.

The man accused of hitting a Muslim woman wearing a hijab with his car has been named as 31-year-old Brennan Mongan, from Sewell Road in Abbey Wood, southeast London. Police said he fled to Scotland before being located, arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving, criminal damage to a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. He appeared at Woolwich Crown Court via video link, but the hearing had to be adjourned because he was unable to secure legal representation. He remains on remand, and another hearing has been scheduled for 18 June.

Yesterday Israel ordered the inhabitants of Nabiteh to leave (population of 100,000) They then ordered the inhabitants of Tyre to leave (pop of 200,000). Now they've ordered the entire south to leave - up to 300 towns & villages. @AlexCrawfordSky reporting from Lebanon today
