@ick_real And then we go home and take care of our families
Help our wives cook and clean
Take work calls when we would rather be with our kids
And also have dramatically less money for ourselves
A gentle reminder that a man who goes to work to “provide for his family” is actually sacrificing nothing And would still have to work if he didn’t have a family
Okay watching Wayne's World on TV. And for the first time I can ever remember I actually saw the real Stairway to Heaven riff played. The first clip is what I'm used to, the second is what I saw today.
If you make $150k a year in a major US city, you are effectively Lower Middle Class. Stop acting like you’re rich because you can afford an overpriced latte and a lease.
You’re one missed paycheck away from total collapse.
@GoZempic Oh no doubt he’s just a really tough watch. Every time he would go to answer a question he would just act like he was guessing which was annoying to watch
You would think Jamie Ding would have had the foresight to not buzz in for that last question when getting $400 meant nothing but losing $400 meant everything.
@jschunter@mitchellvii Too each his own
As a voracious consumer of human made music - and as someone who regularly sees real shows, I disagree
Where I will push back - this AI slop is in fact stealing human made melodies within a very specific genre. So a human, with effort, could do this better
@GoZempic@mitchellvii This song wouldn’t exist without AI. It is conceptually A+, its lyrics are entirely human-made (contain all the human soul you would want from lyrics), and it’s bringing the intended audience pure joy. It’s the exact opposite of “slop” and there is no reason not to enjoy it.
New Jersey has one of America's biggest housing shortages - and no one is paying attention.
NJ inventory levels are down 63% from pre-pandemic norms, and refuse to recover.
Today there are only 14k listings on the market compared to nearly 40k prior to pandemic.
Such a big spply shortage in the Garden State is resulting in bidding wars. And prices still booming - by as much as double-digits - in certain areas like Princeton, Trenton, and NYC suburbs.
When people talk about the "U.S. Housing Shortage", what they are really talking about is markets like New Jersey.

@AaronLevine_ The true double got him
Aggressive, but right move
Taotao seems like a cool guy - but much different energy than Jamie
The humble gentleman won again - epic run!!
I have no idea what happens, but I’m excited to see Taotao Zhang on #Jeopardy on Friday. If anyone can take Jamie Ding down, it’s either him…or Greg Shahade on 4/27 if Jamie is still around. Both are incredible trivia players who will give him a run IMO
@Alexfeinberg Honestly-this might kind of be inverse. Good looks attract $200k+ jobs
Attractiveness is associated w competence and persuasion
It just makes it easier to land and hold those roles if you’re not a degenerate
And unfortunately $200k, at least where I live, is bullsh** money
A majority of men who are good looking by the time they reach 40 have figured out a way to secure a low stress $200K+ per year
Life has a way of aging men rapidly if they don't figure this part out
@Ryan_Daigler I just don’t get why the adult children don’t tell them to **** right off
Unless they are bankrolling their lives, ✌️
The power is imaginary, yet very real
Narcissists often use withholding tactics to assert control. By withholding important things, necessities or information, they create a power dynamic where they appear as the one in control. When you ask for what you need, they might portray you as “annoying” or “demanding”, flipping the situation to maintain their dominance and avoid responsibility.
@Ryan_Daigler My MIL is a narcissist- controlling psychopath. Everyone deals with her
She targeted me for 10+ years
I’m the only one who doesn’t reinforce her delusions, or lie to her
I am at the point that I physically can’t be around her
Very involved in my wife and kid’s life
Advice?
If a person wants to spot who’s really the abuser in a narcissistic family system, the trick is to watch patterns, not just isolated incidents.
Narcissistic families run on image management, so the truth is usually the opposite of what they present. Here are some key clues: 🧵👇
No offense but you guys got not one but TWO of the most ridiculous championships of all time. Neither team was great, they just got hot at the right time. That makes up for anything you are going through now and as tough as yesterday was it looks like you might have a QB and that's much bigger than what you record will be this year
@grok@Speckle24@middle_class_us@grok awesome
So it was, in real value, way more
Now — what was the MEDIAN HOME PRICE at that time?
And the MEDIAN INCOME?
And what PERCENTAGE of your salary went to paying for your PITI?
And now?
@GoZempic@Speckle24@middle_class_us GoZempic Speckle24 Using CPI, $3.35 in 1970 adjusts to ~$28 in 2025 dollars (inflation multiplier ≈8.4). Current US federal minimum wage is $7.25, far lower in purchasing power. (Actual 1970 min wage was $1.60, adjusting to ~$13.40.)
Older generations say “we all struggled in our 20s.”
No, you didn’t.
You didn’t pay $2,200 for rent and $7 for eggs.
You didn’t graduate into $50K student debt and $0 job security.
Gen Z isn’t dramatic.
They’re drowning.
@Speckle24@middle_class_us@grok take @speckle24’s adjust $3.35 for inflation, assuming 1970 relative to today’s dollar value
Compare that to the current minimum wage
Boo-hoo. We might not have paid seven dollars for eggs but guess what, minimum wage was $3.35.
Also, where are you paying seven dollars for eggs? That’s ridiculous. Also, I moved out on my own when I was 18 years old, I was making four dollars an hour and my rent was $800 a month. I worked two jobs and went to community college for a year before moving to a four college. I had student loans and I paid them back. It’s called working hard. We didn’t get ‘triggered’ and take ‘emotional days’. And we damn sure didn’t whine about not wanting to pay back loans when we were the ones that signed on the dotted line. That is called responsibility.
Also, do you seriously think people made the same amount of money back then as people do now?
