We had friends to play with, either with split screen multiplayer or … outside. I never had a single game that needed a critical issue fixed. For those known that needed it game distributors issued incredibly expensive mail in replacements that lead to game developers having their shit together and not forcing paying customers to be their beta testers. I never had a single disk damaged, not a single one and I play video games well before games came on disks. Even when you had to be a dufus and had a disk damaged, you could get it replaced. I never had a single memory card corrupted, heck even 30 years later, after decades in storage my memory cards all still worked exactly the same with my old save games still perfectly intact. The single only thing that progressed in a posive way is graphics. Just graphics. Not audio, not story telling, not game mechanics, nothing. Just graphics.
