At 26 years old I just finished my Ph.D. In Industrial Chemistry (Never thought I’d achieve this as a Nigerian living in Nigeria). I’ve published 5 research papers, still working on 5 more with 3 already under peer review. I haven’t even started achieving half of what I want !!

I would not dismiss the trend. I am the only male in my PhD class of eight at Johns Hopkins. I see similar trends in other departments. So yes, in some academic spaces, the imbalance is obvious. But the question is: where exactly is the drop happening, and whether it is a tertiary issue, a pipeline issue, or a field-specific one.
