@AESOKATANO Why do videogame fans always HAVE to think in extremes, there is no flawed game in your world only horrible and amazing games
English

@JoeMerrick So what are your thought on the game? After all this.
English

@JoeMerrick Yeah, I’ll put this on my girlfriend’s list of games to play lol. It’s super chill so I think she’d like it.
English

This game deserves so much better in terms of sales and recognition. It was so much fun and the possibilities for photos were so astronomical that I’m still finding a couple
Today in Pokémon History by Serebii.net@SerebiiOTD
On this day in 2021, 5 years ago, New Pokémon Snap was released. This game was a sequel to the classic and featured you explore the Lental Region, taking photos of the hundreds of Pokémon found there serebii.net/newpokemonsnap/

@n0rtist Umm that’s what signatures are for? Why are you trusting anyone on the internet to be a good person? Sadly…

I'm the artist that drew this.
And I don't approve of reposting my art without quoting, especially if you don't credit me in the primary post

@HandNF @makio_jroses I don’t think that’s how the internet works bro. You ever wrote a research paper? I’m just saying there’s a difference in citing and plagiarism.
English

@makio_jroses You can't just take somebody's work and justify it with giving credit. If they don't want you republishing their work then you should stop.
English

I'd honestly prefer to reply directly in the original conversation, but since I can't, I'll quote it here.
Sorry for the long post, this is also a bit of a personal rant.
The whole situation around credits and citations, especially on PokéTwitter, is getting out of hand, and I really don't think I'm the right person to be lectured about this. Especially when there are clearly accounts out there that thrive entirely on reposted or reused content without ever properly crediting sources, and we all know exactly which accounts we're talking about.
I've always been kind and available to everyone. We’ve never had beef with anyone because that's not why I'm here. We’re just trying to bring good content and useful tools to the community. I put everything I have into this, and the people who follow me know that. I invest all my free time into this passion project, and I lose sleep trying to keep the site updated and consistently deliver content.
So being told that I don't credit people or that I steal information is simply not true. And Joe, at this point some of the things being said about us are just false accusations. The only time something like this even came up was during SV, and even then other users pointed out that Serebii was clearly credited everywhere, every time we used data from you. (image attached)
We have a dedicated credits page where everyone is mentioned for their work. If someone can tag @ dhelmise or pass this along, I'd appreciate it since I've been blocked and want to make sure my response is seen. I'm sorry for all this, but you were still included in the credits along with everyone else. I hope everything is fine. And when someone asked in the comments where the data came from (before I even saw your tweet), I immediately shared your Gist as you can see. I'm not here to gatekeep or claim work that isn't mine, I always give credit when it's appropriate, and always did.
That said, you all know this isn't easy work. This isn't copy-paste content where a site runs itself. I spend hours organizing data and doing manual data entry. There's a lot of time and effort behind everything I publish. It's not “a lame” copy and paste website.
Right now it feels like only Joe is being recognized for doing this kind of work, which honestly isn't fair. We had already started working on Pokéopia habitats before him using trailers and preview footage. As for the “upscale” claim, I genuinely don't know where that's coming from. It may be confusion with another site or app. Some images we used came from Polygon, which is also credited. If they used and upscaled your images, that's not something we were involved in, we didn't upscale anything ourselves. And in EVERY “paper towns map” (SV as already mentioned and Z-A), the content we got from you is LITERALLY MENTIONED BELOW THE MAP. And it's definitely not EVERYTHING from you. We do A LOT of work too. You are not the only one.
As for the Champions information, I never used Joe's work. I started from the community Excel by RoiDadadou, where Serebii was mentioned as well, and put that as credit after asking for permission. Then I was shared KrisXV's Gist and used that for all the missing data. And again, credited on the site, just like everyone else.
Actually lately I've even avoided looking at Serebii specifically to prevent situations like this, because it's frustrating for me too.
We always respect everyone's work. Anubis (which replied on the thread), I tried reaching out to you years ago but never got a response or a way to contact you. Still, you've always been included in the credits, and we genuinely appreciate your work.
Joe, I respect you a lot for everything you've done. If I'm a Pokémon fan today, it's also thanks to you. But nothing is automatically owed, and you're not the only one putting in sleepless nights. Please respect the work of others as well, especially when you don't have the full context. We already had a chat about that, and you seemed chill.
I really hope this doesn't happen again. Right now I'm being attacked and portrayed in a way that doesn't reflect who I am or what I do. I always try to keep things open and respectful, but I don't understand the constant negativity on Twitter. Everyone is credited. From my side, there will never be any stealing. If I miss, sorry.
I hope this helps clarify the situation for everyone. And to those who may have blocked me without really knowing me, if this is the reason, I'd genuinely ask you to reconsider, because this is very likely just a misunderstanding or a lack of full context. We can talk. Our DMs are open and we'd love to work together with any of you to build and deliver even more useful content for the community.
We've always been open and available, and I have no interest in creating problems with anyone. I don't want a toxic environment, these things can simply be talked through.
Also, just to put things into perspective: there have been cases of applications copying Joe's data, and even copying our own work, like our Habitat Planner tool, which we were the only ones to have at the time, along with many other tools that reflect the different focus of our site. Our work has been copied too.
But honestly, that's not the point. Credit matters, and I'll always be the first to say that. Everyone should learn to give proper credit. At the same time, we're dealing with public information, data that, ultimately, anyone could gather themselves. Joe is always able to publish things faster because he can dedicate a significant amount of time to it, and that's something we respect and appreciate. On our side, we also have full-time jobs, so things may come out later, but that doesn't automatically mean they're copied and never credited. We do our best too.
Right now it feels like no matter what you do, it's never enough: if you don't credit, it's wrong; if you do, it's still questioned. That's not a healthy dynamic for anyone.
I hope this can be taken as a broader message for the community. I just want to contribute positively, keep building, and maintain a respectful environment where people can actually talk things through instead of escalating things unnecessarily.

Joe Merrick@JoeMerrick
@dhelmise_ps Welcome to my life. Caught them with my paper towns many times with each game release. They did it recently with Pokopia too and thought I wouldn't notice because they AI upscaled my images.
English

@JoeMerrick All they have to do really is bring back the best Battle aspects of all of their games and everything that was in Pokémon Stadium one and two.
They already have all of the systems that we want. They just need to do this game right.
I’m talking battle towers, different cups…
English

Why am I not surprised it’s a terrible launch? Smh. And micro transactions? That makes me not even wanna play fr. We don’t need a battle pass and useless ways to temporarily power up pokemon. Crazy talk.
Chibirobo1@chibirobo12
This is just unacceptable... Pokemon Champions players deserve better than this!
English

@SLOplays A movie where the main character doesn’t talk doesn’t make sense. It barely makes sense that our character doesn’t speak in the game. This bothers me about Pokemon games too.
So my character has nothing to say ever?!
English

So 2 hours of "Hyeuhhhh! Grahhh!"
