Am I the only one who thinks that this *might* not play out that way?
One of the themes for Hal Jordan in the series is: “Our show is in a lot of ways about replacement - when should someone step aside and when is it time for the next person to take the reins? That push and pull between those two characters is really important”
If Hal only gives over the ring when he's dying, that would be a lot less meaningful compared to what the showrunner was describing the series is going for.
It'd be a more compelling arc for him to come to that decision on his own in contrast to where he starts the season. After decades as a 'Lantern Legend', he recognises it's ok to let John carry the mantle forward.

The Hollywood petition to block the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger continues to grow as 4,000-plus names have now signed it, including Robert De Niro, Sofia Coppola and Holly Hunter.
“This transaction would further consolidate an already concentrated media landscape, reducing competition at a moment when our industries — and the audiences we serve — can least afford it," the letter reads. "The result will be fewer opportunities for creators, fewer jobs across the production ecosystem, higher costs, and less choice for audiences in the United States and around the world. Alarmingly, this merger would reduce the number of major U.S. film studios to just four."

I also feel like we've safely established that "they're doing it as a horror movie!" is absolute bullshit for cape movies. Venom, Dr. Strange 1 and 2, Morbius, Aquaman 1 and 2 etc. People love to get excited but it's never actually a horror movie
