Someone in my inbox just told me I’m a legalist because I said Andrew Tate doesn’t know God based on his rejection of Jesus Christ as Lord. Weird times folks.

Did you know New Zealand law doesn't actually define consent? The Crimes Act only lists what consent is not. That puts us out of step with the countries we usually compare ourselves with. A re-elected National Government will change that. We'll modernise the law so consent must be actively given, meaning there must be a "yes", not just the absence of a "no". That would make it clear that silence is not consent, and that consent in the past is not consent forever. These are things most New Zealanders already understand. The law should reflect them. The change would give judges and juries a clear definition to work with. And importantly, it wouldn't shift the burden of proof in sexual cases. The prosecution would still need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that consent wasn't given. Already National has made stalking a jailable offence, and we've given victims of sexual violence the power to decide on name suppression. National is focused on fixing the basics in law and order, and modernising our consent laws is the next step. But our work is far from over. National will continue to build the future where every New Zealander feels safe - in their communities, in their relationships, and in their own homes.

@TheZeitgeistNZ Clearly after the India FTA debacle, trade deals need checks and balances avoiding mistakes. ( i.e. including UNDRIP in error) Most reasonable people would accept that. NZ First are on the right track.

It’s not just the India FTA anymore, a remit passed at the NZ First conference pledges not to support ANY trade deals unless they meet an extensive set of criteria. New Zealand is and always has been a trading nation, we’d be buggered without trade/trade deals. I thought NZ First understood this and it was why they campaigned on increasing exports.

REMIT DEBATE UPDATE: NZF delegates have concluded Remit 15 result - Passed with Amendment - Protect New Zealand’s sovereignty by rejecting international agreements or trade deals that compromise parliamentary supremacy, independent immigration policy, economic self-governance, or democratic control over New Zealand laws, currency, resources, and national decision-making by establishing a permanent, statutory, independent, international Trade Treaty Scrutiny Commission to provide oversight of international trade and investment agreements. Remit 17 – Passed Remit 18 – Lost Remit 19 – Passed with Amendments - Include in New Zealand First’s Energy Strategy the creation of a NZ State Owned Enterprise (SOE) for the express purposes of: 1. exploration, 2. production, 3. upstream refining of oil and gas, and 4. supporting biomass to energy conversion, 5. State Owned Enterprises (SOE) in gas and oil exploration that need to attract overseas investment must require a retainer or bond. This retainer or bond has to go into an escrow account, not into an overseas account, but into the NZ Superfund or ACC. With extra focus to also include the restructure of New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals permitting processes and enabling recycling of existing infrastructure of pipelines and existing consented sites to support modern production stimulation techniques and distribution of refined petroleum-based products.

@Nickisbackbaby Yes, its a real conundrum. "Akways be prepared to tell others of the hope that is within you". Often your manner and bearing, your values, speak of you and others notice. Live for Jesus Christ and mention his name when you get a chance. I often quote a scripture in conversation.

Hey guys, quick question. What's the easiest, most natural way you've found to bring up Jesus in a normal conversation without coming on too strong and scaring people off? I really want to share my faith, but I hate the 'awkward preacher' vibe.

@RyanHendersonNZ @NZXVoice To be fair, the old Judaic customs and laws formed the basis of our laws and values i.e. The Ten Commandments before people realised Jesus Christ fulfilled the law. Christian values are being embedded as a sufficiency.

🚨 Shane Jones’ powerful opening speech where he said:
“We are the inheritors of the rich Judaic Christian traditions that has made New Zealand the country it is today. And we suffer not one slither of doubt when on our behalf parliaments man or woman stands either intones this prayer or invites someone else to give it.”
He then called for a moment of reflection and delivered this prayer: 🙏
“Almighty God, humbly acknowledging our need for guidance on all things and laying aside all private and personal interests. We beseech thee to grant the affairs of this house and our country. To the glory of thy holy name and the maintenance of true religion and justice. The honour of the King, and the public welfare peace, and tranquility of New Zealand through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen” 🔥✝️🔥 God bless @nzfirst #nzpol #nzfirst

Whilst I don't think PM Ardern deserves to get abused by the public in ways that stopped her from living a normal life in NZ, she has no self-awareness regarding the damage her policies had on the country. She's the example of a PR driven politician. rnz.co.nz/life/people/ce…

Some have been surprised to learn new ACT candidate Paul Henry's political idol is Helen Clark. Here's the footage from his Herald interview. Personally, could never vote for someone who idolises a closet communist like Clark on one hand & on the other, denigrates a true anti-communist warrior like President Trump.

New ACT candidate Paul Henry thinks US President Donald Trump is "on the cusp of barking mad". A view that will no doubt earn him the favour of his party's leader. In this interview with Stuff reporter Jenna Lynch, Mr Henry shares other views. For example- Chris Luxon would make a better PM than Winston Peters NZ's restrictive firearms laws, imposed by Jacinda Ardern in a knee jerk reaction to the Christchurch shootings, are about right. He wants the Maori seats abolished, saying the need for special Maori representation that initially underpinned their creation no longer applies. He is critical of NZ First for opposing the India Free Trade agreement, saying NZ needs such deals for its future prosperity. He also says their claims relating to immigration around the trade deal are "not accurate". He is hopeful of taking ACT from their current 7% polling to 12% by the time of the election (November). Agree or disagree with Mr Henry, he has a refreshingly forthright way of speaking. As I have said previously, IMHO he will do well for ACT as long as he gets his messaging right.

The government should not take over parental decisions about what kind of phones or technology our kids have just to try and solve social media issues. Banning smartphones for under 16s won’t solve anything apart from making our country sound like it’s turning into some sort of totalitarian state. Why are some parties thinking it’s now an acceptable option for the government to take away parent’s rights to make decisions for their children? Where has the expectation of parental responsibility gone?
