The Royal Navy's availability issues are their own thing, but fleet assets like T45s for the carriers and Wildcats for the escorts shouldn't have been expected to defend Akrotiri and asking them to do so with little notice is a desperate afterthought.
That is a sign of deeper failures of the RAF's ability to defend airfields and air defence in general.

BREAKING: While HMS Dragon is prepared for war the Govenment has stepped in to provide a replacement bus service to get Super Boat Soldiers (Like SAS but boat) to RAF Holibobs to defend Cyprus. The 800.85km journey will take just 71.75 days

A just action, with respect to the AR sailors still on patrol.

Ships move. The ship might be where it is now, but a week later it will be somewhere else.
That is why, in fact, Woodward sent an order to sink the Belgrano. Knowing he had no authority, but to underline this point.

Whilst we're all ranting about the state of our @RoyalNavy, let the Fleet Air Arm be the navys wings, not a mismatch of RAF and FAA. Bring fixed wing back to Heron (closer to Portsmouth) and be a dedicated punch and protect asset, without politics.

Fleet Commander, @smrmoorhouse, visited @HMSDragon as the destroyer made her final preparations ahead of her mission to the Eastern Med.
VAdm Steve Moorhouse showed admiration in the ship’s company for their commitment and professionalism in readying their warship for action.

Seeing a nice comfortable chat with the officers whilst your needed to protect the crown, is poor PR.

@DrChrisParry This is all theory, no one has seen modern subs face a modern ASW aircraft or ships. The closest I can think of was an exchange between British frigates and an Argentine submarine in the Falklands. And both sides walked away from it alive.
