Here's my hottest take. I’m sick of the narrative that Ireland is “oppressed” by Britain. Firstly, the average Irish person is richer than the average British person. We are not extracting money from Ireland. Secondly, most people in Northern Ireland either oppose or don’t care about reunification with the South. We are not subjecting anyone to rule against their will. Thirdly, during the Troubles there was unjustified violence and murder on both sides. What about innocent working-class Brits, who had nothing to do with anything, but were blown up in their own hometowns? I’m so sick of the victim narrative perpetuated by Irish leftists. They sound exactly like Israelis complaining about “generational trauma” they’ve never experienced.
