Delighted to confirm that Sam Ashworth-Hayes has left the Telegraph to join Reform UK as Senior Policy Adviser. Sam is one of the standout talents of his generation. His Telegraph columns and leaders have been required reading for anyone trying to make sense of the challenges Britain is now facing. As a policy thinker he is imaginative, meticulous, and defiantly immune to the herd instincts of the SW1 commentariat. Few understand better than Sam does why Britain has stopped growing, why it is changing beyond recognition, and what needs to be done about it. We’re fortunate to have him.

So my son interviewed my gay friend for an assignment in school where they were to interview a “member of the LGBTQ community “ . I thought it would be funny because my friend is no bs person but how the hell is he supposed to hand this in? 😂 I knew it would’ve bad but now he’s transcribing it , it’s so much worse than I thought.. We are debating whether to clean it up for the assignment or leave it and risk his grade but have a laugh. The teacher Is a virtue signaling moron. Not sure what to do now . Here is just one answer he provided 😂 “How has it impacted your life to be a part of LGBTQ community?” It hasn’t because I’m not part of any community. I’m just a gay man . They just keep adding letters and I don’t even know what some of these letters mean . You know what Q is ? It’s “queer”. That’s a slur. If someone calls me queer, we have a problem . I get that this is what they teach you nowadays and you have to use the letter mafia vocabulary but I want nothing to do with it. I just happen to be gay. My whole life is not me being gay and some flag or letters that mean things that have nothing to do with me . It’s all bullshit .

The rising cost of living is on everyone’s minds. But gimmicky freebies and price caps just won’t cut it. What people really need is more money, to spend how they think best. Which is why I want to lower all Scottish income taxes below England’s, giving Scots a pay-rise by allowing them to keep more of what they earn. That means an extra £735 per year for a Police Constable with five years of experience, or over £2,000 for one with ten. It means an extra £2,200 for a resident doctor with five years of experience, or over £5,000 for a GP or a hospital consultant. It means an extra £2,000 for a teacher with five years of experience, and over £1,900 for an experienced senior nurse. And so on throughout the whole of Scotland’s economy, rewarding people for working hard and gaining experience, and encouraging those with valuable experience in our public services not to retire early or cut back their hours.
