Here’s the thing about the Torah, Genesis included. Most critical scholars will tell you it wasn’t written by one author at one time. It’s the work of multiple writers, traditions, and editors, layered over centuries. And those ancient Israelite writers weren’t writing about Jesus. They couldn’t have been. He wouldn’t be born for many centuries. What actually happened is that Christians came along later and read those passages back through a Christological lens. Which is fine, as interpretation. But that’s what it is: later theology, not the original meaning. Reading Jesus back into Genesis may support Christian belief from inside the faith. But it doesn’t independently prove anything about him. A prophecy discovered after the fact, by the people looking for it, is doing very different work than one recognized in advance:
