The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan’s best film. I feel confident making this statement after seeing the film in theaters twice. I truly think The Odyssey is a generational film & the defining movie of Nolan’s career. Call me a prisoner of the moment, I don’t care. I know what I just saw. My full rankings are on my @Letterboxd here boxd.it/1Jvwd

@In2sportz7 @CinemaTweets1 Haven’t seen braveheart but it’s on the watchlist. But I find gladiator to have terribly shot action and a cheap look. Ridley Scott’s laziness doesn’t help either. He has only two good movies in his entire career with alien and blade runner

The Odyssey’s scope, scale & magnitude reminds me of Gladiator. I’m too young to have seen Gladiator in theaters & I don’t know what the immediate reaction to it was at the time in 2000, but in terms of swords & sandals, I don’t know if I’ve seen a film compare to Gladiator other than The Odyssey. Both films are on another level separate from Troy. And both feature exceptional leading performances.

@PlotStrikesBack @metacritic there’s no such thing as “objective opinion”. All opinions are subjective. Secondly, someone who’s seen the movie is credible. Someone who hasn’t seen it is not credible. The metacritic score being much lower is due to a bunch of people who haven’t seen the movie rating it low

By that same logic, verified users can positively inflate a movie’s audience score as well. Verification only confirms that someone purchased a ticket through Rotten Tomatoes’ participating partners (Fandango as you mentioned). It doesn’t guarantee they’re objective or immune from bias. A lot of people will rate it purely on their subjective opinion, not objective opinion. You can say you enjoyed or liked a movie while stating it has issues and could be better in certain categories. A verified viewer can give a movie 5 stars for reasons that have nothing to do with its quality, just as another verified viewer can give it 1 star for reasons unrelated to the film. The verification badge tells us they likely saw the movie, not that their opinion is automatically more credible than someone else’s who also saw it but isn’t verified.

@PlotStrikesBack @metacritic Uh yes a verified user has more credibility. If you haven’t seen the movie then you have absolutely zero credibility. And yes, verified users can rate the movie low, that’s the whole point. But for this movie people who’ve seen the movie have rated very highly. Which is good

I think you’re missing my point. You’re arguing that a “verified user” has more weight or credibility, but that already creates a distinction where criticism from non-verified users is treated as less valuable simply because they aren’t verified. Second, a verified user can absolutely dislike a movie and explain why they gave it a lower score. That isn’t inherently review bombing, it’s just a negative review. Being a verified user simply means the review is tied to a subscription or account that the platform recognizes. It doesn’t make the opinion more accurate, more objective, or automatically more legitimate than someone else’s.

Yes, they have "burnt faces" Because Homer knew the difference between Helen and her twin Clytemnestra, who were "fair haired" and "white armed" and sub saharran Africans. If Homer wanted the Queen of Sparta to be a "burnt face", he would have described her thus. It's not Nolans place to change Homers poem, if he wants his own characters, he can write his own story.

@PlotStrikesBack @metacritic Why would you buy a ticket just to review bomb? No one’s going through that hassle. It’s obvious the easy place to review bomb is metacritic user score. It’s happened before to other movies. Literally every single other site the score is way higher. It’s obvious

But there is in Homers poem, which is what we're talking about. If Nolan had added a cyclops or giant into the Odyssey, I would be against it, but they are in the poem. However, cars and African Spartan Queens aren't in poem, therefore neither have a place in a film based upon it

@PlotStrikesBack @metacritic For verified audience score you do have to, for all audience you don’t. And when I say review bombing I am referring to those who have not watched the movie at all and give it a low score just to influence the movie’s rating

That’s incorrect. You can absolutely leave a review without buying a ticket through Fandango. If I have the AMC pass, I’m not required to buy a ticket through Fandango and I can still leave a review on RT. They’ve been known to censor and withhold reviews. What’s the other option, IMDB? Are those not trustworthy reviews? I don’t care if people pirate and watch the movie, you can still assess a critical review and opinion.

@PlotStrikesBack @metacritic People don’t realize that a “Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes is anything with the equivalent of a 6/10 and up. You could tear the movie apart, give it a D and they will mark it as a positive review.

It's exactly the same thing. There were no cars in ancient Greece, and there were no Sub Saharan African queen's in Ancient Greece. Both are out of place and ruin the suspension of disbelief. If Hollywood made the African epic The Epic of Sundiata and cast Sydney Sweeney as Sologon Konde I'd be just as pissed off, because there were not blonde haired women in East Africa. It's not Nolans story to change, if he wants to make his own characters he write his own story, but this story belongs to the Greeks, not Hollywood, they should show them respect
