Plenty of D.C. progressives are pointing to @NYCMayor's first budget as an example that D.C. could follow, but as plenty of critics have pointed out, his budget includes $4 billion from the state government. D.C., of course, has no similar state government to get help from.
Aparna Raj@aparnafordc

A bold vision is not just necessary, it's practical. Candidates have a moral imperative to demand more, think bigger, and fight for better. If we want DC to be a place where everyone can live, we cannot afford to balance our own budget on the backs of working people.

It's true! I'll still be local, though, and staying in local journalism. Working with @51stnews has been a dream; I'm really pumped for what they're building. And it's *great* that they're hiring new reporters who bring new energy, new interests, and a new way of looking at D.C.
The 51st@51stnews

We have some news to share: Reporter @maustermuhle will be leaving The 51st in mid-May. "I’m still more excited than ever about what The 51st is," he writes: “I may be stepping away, but others will be stepping in — and that’s a good thing." Read more: 51st.news/im-leaving-but…

George Washington believed that vaccinating his troops against smallpox was the key to winning the Revolutionary War and our independence. A founding father from 250 years ago had a better understanding of science and military readiness than Pete Hegseth.
The Washington Post@washingtonpost

Breaking news: The military will no longer require U.S. troops to receive the annual flu vaccine, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, rolling back what he described as “overreaching mandates that only weaken our war-fighting capabilities.” wapo.st/4dZY8UL

No matter the educational or professional ceilings we shatter. No matter how many of their children we carry, deliver, & raise. Still. Some men see our lives worthy of snuffing out. It will take the many good men out there stepping in & up to help end violence against women.

@AssocAnderson @tomsherwood I mean I get what you’re saying but also I don’t think the day he murdered his wife is the appropriate time to talk about it?

I knew Justin Fairfax. Our paths crossed during my first run for the General Assembly. Every interaction I had with him was professional, respectful, and measured. What happened to him politically should make everyone uncomfortable—regardless of party. At the exact moment Ralph Northam was facing collapse over the blackface scandal, allegations surfaced against Fairfax that effectively ended his political future overnight. He was never charged. He was never prosecuted. And once his career was over, the allegations faded from public view just as quickly as they appeared. That pattern—unproven allegations surfacing at the precise moment someone is about to rise politically—is not new. We’ve seen it play out nationally with figures like Brett Kavanaugh and Clarence Thomas. Whether you believe those claims or not, the timing is always the same—and the damage is always permanent. Now we’re watching the aftermath of a life that, by any objective measure, was derailed in a matter of weeks. And the same political class that stood by—or benefited—at the time is now offering thoughts and prayers. That’s the part that ought to turn your stomach. If we’re going to be honest about accountability in this country, it has to cut both ways. Destroying someone publicly without due process, without proof, and without consequence is not justice. It’s politics at its worst. And it keeps happening because it works.

Debate all you want about why one vision resonates more for you than the other. But can we PLEASE leave the mudslinging and the false info behind and focus on what actually matters: the policies & type of leader DC needs for the next 4 years.

I know politics can get messy but we’re on the same side. It’s disappointing to hear people say McDuffie is MAGA in the same way it’s disappointing when people claim JLG has no track record! Both are great candidates and people. Idk who to vote for yet because I like them both!

Can we get serious for a sec? BOTH JLG and McDuffie have legislative records that demonstrate a deep care & commitment to bettering this city. The conversation should be centered around what you like about one candidate & their proposal for the future of DC. That’s it.

@maustermuhle There’s a rock dock/platform less than half a mile from the 10m jump and it has different levels to it that are underwater. Gives you a good sense of how much the water levels can change! Enjoy the trip :)

@maustermuhle One of my favorite trips ever! Dont miss Cerro Tzankujil - the nature reserve in San Marcos. The 10 meter jump is intense but there’s tons of spots after that where you can jump off smaller rocks/swim/lay in the sun

I’m traveling with my kids in Guatemala this week, and there’s a transportation option I want to export to D.C.: the tuk tuk. It’s basically a tiny three-wheel cab. It’s amazing for short trips in tight spaces, and some drivers totally deck them out.

I don’t understand what we gain from mapping NYC political dynamics onto DC? I don’t even know what a Cuomo playbook means or how invoking it clarifies McDuffie’s approach
Brandon Wu@brandon_wuu

DC moderates are running the same failed Cuomo playbook! Insane to be lamenting a shrinking DC economy under Bowser and then simultaneously advocate for McDuffie, who’s backed by the same groups who re-elected Bowser & funded by current Bowser admin officials.
