I am getting really angry hearing hospital emergency rooms are closed and now this. The Fort St. John Birthing Centre is shut down for a full 24 hours-AGAIN-because Northern Health can’t keep enough staff on the floor. This is the second time in just two weeks. Expectant mothers aren’t being told “sorry, come back tomorrow”, they’re being told to drive to Dawson Creek or all the way to Prince George. Just this morning I had a call from a woman that is due to have her baby any day now. She called to tell me that she received a text saying the maternity ward was closed in FSJ, and that she has to plan for alternate options. Is the new slogan for NH "Just hold on"?? This is unacceptable! Just recently you might have seen my comment that our health authorities need to be dismantled. Our older system worked better. This is why! Our health care system is in shambles and I deal with multiple constituents every week that need help and I try my hardest to get them what they need. Once again, Northern families are paying the price for Victoria’s failures. The letter I have attached has been sent to the ministers office, and it is just like multiple others that my office writes on a regular basis asking for help and more resources.
