“To get a sense of how little electricity people use in sub-Saharan Africa, imagine each person there turning on a 50-watt light bulb. That alone would instantly double consumption. Nigeria, with 240m people, generates less electricity than Wyoming, with 0.6m” —@TheEconomist

@GrantFriedman89 @TrungTPhan Based on current financial data and portfolio listings, Bernard Arnault and his firms like Aglaé Ventures do not hold any reported shares in Netflix as of December 2025. The 1999 investment appears to have been exited.

10 years ago! My friend, drunk after we beat Wales in the QF, called me from South Africa and said, “Buy tickets for the semi-final, I’ll pay and I’m flying over.” I waited until the next morning and called him - he couldn’t remember the conversation, then said, “Buy them anyway, I’m coming!” We then lost to NZ 😭😂

Andrew Ross Sorkin’s new book “1929” has wild details of Winston Churchill YOLO trading US stocks before The Great Depression: ▫️Traded £400,000 a week on margin at one point. ▫️Was in New York on “Black Monday” in October 28, 1929 (Dow fell 13% and another 12% next day) and portfolio got wiped. ▫️“Took years” to recover from financial losses but eventually clawed it back with publishing deals (his largest financial windfall was a book deal for his WWII memoirs).

The bond market is pricing in 2 more 25 bps rate cuts by year-end and 3 more 25 bps cuts in 2026. That would bring the Fed Funds Rate below 3%. After a brief hiatus, easy money is back. Video: youtube.com/watch?v=nuDXtH…

Bad lighting has ruined almost everything. Even sitting in a Spur is now like being in a Dischem. Not everything (almost nothing) needs to be bright white light at 4000 Kelvin. We really need to make lighting great again.

@JohannBiermann1 @AndreBothmaTax While it all depends on the role, but a customer facing staff member should be able to put a short video out to promote themselves. We judge the videos on many aspects (did the applicant chose a clean, neat place to take it, was the video shakey) shows basic awareness.
