@GreenBurialVT Love this! Especially bc VT has a special place in my heart, as my grandparents lived there and I went to @yestermorrow design/build school.

We here at GBV are very interested in what @recomposelife life is working to accomplish. While 70% of Vermonters choose cremation almost all compost food scraps and farmers their livestock. It is a logical option for Vermonters to want and #Recomposition is a replicable model.

I always enjoy speaking with Ken Picard of @sevendaysvt This time it was about human composting (a la @recomposelife) and its possible future in Vermont. Glad to see @GreenBurialVT get mentioned too. sevendaysvt.com/vermont/wtf-wh…

@janehillhouse1 As one who does this with some regularity in cem’s old they were green b4 there was an alternative, u put a board over the open hole. It’s a danger to animals etc to leave it uncovered.

Nothing new for those of you familiar with #greenburial, but a great introduction or review. Plus a look at @recomposelife, which is a great green option for urban areas and #aquamation an interesting green alternative to cremation

@MemorialReefs Thank you for finding a way to use cremains to restore coral reefs! It’s an amazing idea and I am always happy to promote it.

Friendly reminder that #cremains aren’t good for the environment. Mainly sodium phosphate with a pH of 11.4 they kill plant life unless amendmended with compost. @MemorialReefs reef balls, tattoo ink, jewelry, and pottery are all great, safe, alternatives to scattering&burial

I spend a lot of time talking about this as the president of @GreenBurialVT cremains are salty w/a pH of 11.4. You can’t grow a tree in ashes w/o amendment with compost. If being a tree is important plant a sapling (not a seed, not all seeds germinate) at your green burial site

Vermont has the highest #cremation rate in the US in part b/c of insufficient access to #greenburial, but also because it is the most cost effective mode of disposition. This is a great script for figuring the environmental impact and finding a place with at least carbon offsets
