@Cait76128957 Books are such a powerful tool for teachers to use when teaching #realworldissues. Books can be used to help even the youngest citizens to assume responsibility for creating, enjoying and maintaining a #sustainable future.

Let's take a closer look. Book: Like the Ocean We Rise by Nicola Edwards & Sarah Wilkins. This book is a great influential book to put real world issues into perspective to encourage us to make a change. What #SDG could this book be used for? #UoNTeach #Educ4750

@Cait76128957 Hi Cait, this idea was new to me too! I love your idea of creating flyers, this fosters higher-order thinking skills as well as cross-curriculum learning which engages students' critical thinking as they make connections to different areas of the curriculum. #Bloomstaxonomy

@GreentreeSky Wow, this is cool. I would never have thought to use vegetable scraps for something else. Maybe your students could create little flyers that include a range of vegetables and what their scraps could be used for. Maybe a poll box for feedback on how they went with the suggestion.

This website is a toolkit for creative #foodwaste ideas. Vegetable skins are one of the most commonly discarded items during food prep. Why not make the most of this nutrient-rich ingredient that is overlooked and make potato peel nachos? #UoNTeach #SDG12
Stop Food Waste Day@_StopFoodWaste_

The scale of the food waste problem is staggering! We all can make a big impact with small changes to reduce wasting food. Pledge today: stopfoodwasteday.com #StopFoodWasteDay

@GreentreeSky I love the use of visual stimuli. I think it allows students to gain their own perspective on a topic through visual perception which is often a favourite within the classroom. As we move into the 21st century, children are surrounded by technology, videos are often more engaging

The concept of #Sustainabilty can be hard for some learners to comprehend. This video is a great resource to introduce #SDG12 to students especially #visuallearners who understand best when they see the information. #UoNTeach #Debonothinkinghats #Educ4750

Check out this video introducing #SDG12 to students! It outlines issues surrounding responsible consumption and production, and ways people are helping around the world? Would you use this video with your students or would you use another video? #educ4750 youtu.be/2MxKrGXAyH8

How do we get students involved in #climatechange? We need to focus on deepening students’ understanding of our physical/social world, give them the chance to get involved in community & value Indigenous knowledge as a way of learning to live more #sustainably. #UoNTeach

@GreentreeSky @CordaJesse @Miss_Jess_H @JuliaBe64274003 @NoahJWynne My school has a dedicated Aboriginal Education teacher so I would consult with them as to how I could integrate Indigenous Perspectives into my lessons, specifically my outdoor ones. I would also use resources from the Junior Landcare Learning Centre to see what they recommend.

Students are our future & the world is theirs. When students come together with a shared passion their voices are loud. #Studentstrikes allow them to participate in democracy & develop #globalcitizen skills. What a great conversation starter to introduce #SDG12. #UoNTeach

Thanks @MissJoyTweets This is an amazing lesson idea. I would love to see the students setting this up and following the progress over the 2 week timetable. A great hands-on learning experience for everyone. #classroom #lessonideas #CriticalCreative #worms #composting

Did you know that worms are nature's recyclers? Check out the lesson below ⬇️ where kids can watch worms break down waste before their eyes! educationworld.com/a_lesson/Compo… #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach #handsonlearning

@Hugh10297614 @NoahJWynne Thank you for sharing Hugh. I like how the @plasticsoupfoun website is interactive. It is a great way to bring the class together and start the waste reduction conversation whilst implementing technology.

What a fantastic initiative @GreentreeSky, thanks for sharing @NoahJWynne. I also hope to connect how buying healthy foods with less packaging can help students understand how they can minimise waste. Explore this website with your students! plastichealthcoalition.org/plastic-diet/

WOW what a great initiative @GreentreeSky! Implementing cooking lessons within my unit will make sure the concept of sustainable food waste is fully realised. The only question now is how else could students possibly be taught about sustainability? #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach #SDG12

Students participating in the creation and cooking of a meal that contains elements they grew, not only does it teach about positive production and consumption, but it can also link to other cultures. Allowing students insights into the world of others #SDG12 #UoNTeach #Educ4750

@GreentreeSky @dirtgirlworld @CostasGarden This a great idea, hosting a community lunch. I think this would also be a great way to involve the variety of cultures within our schools and the wider community. The best part, we can showcase our school's garndening.

@JuliaBe64274003 @CordaJesse @Sandnicoll I absolutely agree with @CordaJesse. Consultation with the local AECG is imperative when embedding Indigenous perspectives within the classroom. I would also build a trusting relationship with local Indigenous families to ensure they are active members in their child's education.
