@jnixy Rates these high always make me worry about definitional changes. Had a Capt. once tell me during a project that their department systematically reclassified cases after concerns they were inflating clearance rates. Any conversations on the ground with them?

Sam Aldegheri fired off a strong start against Brazil with 4.2 scoreless innings and 8 K The Angels southpaw had his fastball-changeup combo working, leading to 17 whiffs on the day. He kept the heater high in the zone and had RHH flailing at his low-and-away changeup

@IanCundall Curious about a Tolle vs Bennett comparison on the next pod. Very early of course, but exciting.

New Red Sox LHP Jake Bennett maxed out at 97.6 mph in his spring debut. Last year with the Nationals he maxed out at 95.8 mph. Red Sox velocity program already paying major dividends here.

@tylermilliken_ Hot take: trading him is stupid. We’ll need that depth at some point, and should try to get through ST before considering it seriously.

Good to see Patrick Sandoval working off a mound… feels like those trade talks could pick up as he proves he’s healthy again during camp.

Yesterday I published the piece below and some folks said it was alarmist evidence of TDS (how anyone could say that after Jan. 6 boggles the mind). And today Trump says Republicans should take over the voting in multiple places. We're still too complacent. nytimes.com/2026/02/01/opi…

Some very basic generally accepted police principles, training, and tactics to keep in mind when thinking through lethal use of force incidents. There must be an objectively reasonable perception of an immediate deadly threat before using lethal force. Deadly meaning death or serious bodily injury. Every bullet fired must be justified as above, i.e., the deadly threat must be a continuing one to justify each use of deadly force. Officers are expected to provide medical attention even to those they have just used force on, once it is reasonably safe to do so. Officers cannot use deadly force against a fleeing subject, except when they reasonably believe that person poses an ongoing deadly threat to the community/others. Officers are taught that shooting at a moving vehicle is generally not effective, as death is not immediate; there is a high risk of errant shots; and even if the shots are effective, the moving vehicle is now driverless, posing increased risk to other drivers/non-drivers. There are, at minimum, two concurrent required investigations: administrative and criminal. These two processes differ in important ways, including who does them, who resolves them, and the potential outcomes springing from them. Added to that complexity are civil actions which are potentially triggered by the same incident. Finally - competent, professional investigations take months. Almost universally, the initial information is insufficient to base opinion on. It is entirely unprofessional to claim a police shooting is either fully justified or unjustified within hours of the incident.

@tylermilliken_ I think this is largely right, and means a lot of questions won’t be answered until late spring training or even the next trade deadline.

If this is the Red Sox lineup on Opening Day, are you satisfied? 1. Roman Anthony 2. Alex Bregman 3. Jarren Duran 4. Willson Contreras 5. Wilyer Abreu 6. Trevor Story 7. Marcelo Mayer 8. Carlos Narvaez 9. Ceddanne Rafaela If you hold Duran, something has to give with Yoshida. Or you flip Duran (#2 starter, or an intriguing controllable bat) and Yoshida then has the DH spot to start the year with Casas as an option later.

@tylermilliken_ An enviable position for the Sox to go into season with Casas, Campbell and Tolle at AAA as injury depth. If they can land a 2b/3b to pair with Mayer they should be solid
