Midnight ramblings: There was a time when friendship seemed immune to the world’s troubles. We rode bicycles until dusk, laughed at things now long forgotten, and gathered around tables where politics rarely mattered more than the people seated there. We knew one another by character, by kindness, by shared years—not by party or ideology. Now we find ourselves in our sixties, carrying decades of memories alongside divisions that somehow grew sharper than any of us imagined. Conversations once easy have become cautious. Some friends drifted quietly away; others vanished behind walls of anger, certainty, or disappointment. It is a peculiar sorrow to realize that people who once stood shoulder to shoulder at weddings, funerals, ballgames, and backyard cookouts can suddenly seem like strangers. What troubles the heart most is not disagreement itself. We have always disagreed about something. It is the feeling that disagreement now demands separation—as if differing views erase shared history, loyalty, laughter, and love. As if the years meant less than the arguments. I do not understand why it has to be this way either. Growing older was supposed to teach us the value of time and the rarity of genuine friendship. Instead, many of us have watched the world insist that allegiance to causes matters more than allegiance to one another. And yet, somewhere beneath the noise, I’m hoping that the people we once knew are there. Perhaps weary. Perhaps afraid. Perhaps simply caught in a time that rewards division more than grace. But I cannot help mourning the loss of those carefree days when friendship itself seemed enough.

I responded to Melania Trump’s post today by saying that I think folks should do like I did by going to the ABC website and demanding that the show be taken off the air. I even posted the link to the website. After that I received many thank yous; however, the completely opposite one line responses I received full of vitriol were enlightening. There is definitely a segment of society who have no interest in reasoned debate. Their only response is to attack and demean. Should I have done the same during the disastrous Biden years? No, I have more respect for others than that even if they are delusional.

Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn’t comedy- his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America. People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate. A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him. Enough is enough.  It is time for ABC to take a stand.  How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.

‼️PLEASE INFORM YOURSELVES. BECAUSE ALL OF MAGA IS STUPID ABOUT THIS. ESPECIALLY DUMB PR PEOPLE. There is NO Attorney General who can appease the idiots who understand nothing about how DOJ works. I’ve explained this for many years. My husband worked at DOJ during Reagan and 95% of all the lawyers who run DOJ are Democrats. DOJ is the biggest of rats nests and *NO Republican can survive* that. You’re basically being fed into a meat grinder. Bondi is yet another sacrificial lamb. But at least Trump has finally treated his sacrificial lambs more respectfully, and is giving them JOBS SOMEWHERE else in the Administration. That’s how you know people like Noem, now Bondi, and possibly Tulsi Gabbard next are merely sacrificial lambs- WHO DISCUSSED THEIR ROLES AS SACRIFICIAL LAMBS GLEEFULLY WITH TRUMP BEFORE HE REMOVED THEM. 😉

I think I’m finished voting. It does no good. Let’s just let the Democrats have a straight path instead of putting up this sham appearance of an opposition party. I think Republican members of Congress would prefer that anyway just as long as they get to keep the perks of office. Of course, the midterms are going to give those who aren’t booted out (by there obviously blind constituency) exactly that. Bottom line: Republican so called legislators are useless.

Let’s summarize where we are after a 40+ day Democrat shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. 1) ICE and CBP are funded, thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts and the foresight of President Trump and Republicans in Congress. 2) After holding DHS and the American people hostage for over 40 days, Dems got ZERO restrictions that would prevent ICE and CBP agents from doing their jobs safely. 3) Due to Dem obstruction of the appropriations process, ICE and CBP will get even more funding through budget reconciliation. 4) Dems have once again established themselves as the “Open Borders, Defund the Police” party heading into an election. 5) Dem leadership has proven once again they can’t be trusted to make a deal. Which begs the question if you’re a Dem senator or one of their left-wing supporters: What was this really all about?

I am curious as to whether you think that the Iranian people can take their country back especially if the US and Israel only conduct an air war that greatly damages the military infrastructure while leaving elements of the regime and the IRGC in place. I ask because I know that the IRGC has the guns and the people have none. BTW, I attended your talk at a church in Morehead City, NC a few years back.

Accusations of “fascism” fly at ICE and its supporters, but recent events in Minnesota show the irony: some anti-ICE protesters are the ones acting authoritatively. They impede lawful federal operations and intimidate private citizens—tactics that suppress opposition and bypass the rule of law. Protesters have outnumbered and forced ICE agents to retreat during enforcement actions in Minneapolis, obstructing congressionally authorized duties. Even worse, anti-ICE activists stormed Cities Church in St. Paul during worship, disrupting the service because a pastor works for ICE. They created fear and trauma for families and children, leading to arrests and a DOJ investigation into intimidation and potential civil rights violations. Invading a sacred space to silence or punish perceived political disagreement echoes fascist bullying, not legitimate protest. If these activists truly want to protect undocumented immigrants from deportation, they should change the laws through Congress—not resort to mob tactics that nullify existing statutes. Instead, they seem to prefer keeping the issue alive for political fuel. Deportation isn’t new or uniquely harsh: Obama removed over 3 million people (peaking at ~432,000 in one year), far more than Trump’s first term or Biden’s totals. If prior Democratic administrations deported at higher volumes without widespread “fascist” cries, the selective outrage now reveals more about activism than policy. True authoritarians disrupt institutions, intimidate in private spaces, and reject democratic processes. In Minnesota, that’s not ICE—it’s the protesters crossing into coercion. Real reform comes through legislation, not lawlessness.

It’s no secret that Senate Republicans truly want to be in the minority so they have a (somewhat) real excuse for not doing anything. They are feckless except when it comes to fundraising and maintaining their status on the Washington cocktail circuit. So guess what, they and the House are going to get their wish during the midterms and the rest of us are going to get something akin to Britain.

The killing of an unarmed woman by a masked federal agent in Minneapolis is a moral outrage and a betrayal of American values. There has been no justification offered—only deception and deflection from those in charge.   Accountability for this killing is not optional. As we pray for the victim’s family and loved ones, our nation must reject this violence and unequivocally denounce it.

Governor Walz made the difficult decision to focus on his job and the challenges facing our state rather than campaigning and running for reelection. He has always dedicated his career to delivering for Minnesota — from providing school breakfast and lunches to our kids to passing gun safety legislation to maintaining our state’s AAA bond rating. He is a true public servant.

As I watch the heads of those with TDS spin off, I find myself believing that Removing Nicolás Maduro from power in Venezuela is justified on realist grounds: strategic security, geopolitical interests, and the harsh reality that authoritarian regimes do not voluntarily reform or disappear in an unforgiving world. First, Maduro’s regime operates as a narco-state, with senior officials (including Maduro himself) indicted for narco-terrorism and facilitating massive cocaine trafficking through Venezuela. This funds repression, fuels regional instability, and undermines anti-drug efforts across the Americas. His removal would disrupt these networks and enable international cooperation to restore rule of law. Second, Venezuela serves as a critical foothold for China in Latin America, sustained by billions in loans and investments that shield Maduro from sanctions, alongside military ties. This alignment advances Beijing’s influence at the expense of Western interests. Ousting Maduro could realign the country, reducing China’s strategic leverage in the hemisphere. Finally, the world is not a place where tyrants like Maduro—sustained by fraud, repression, and rogue alliances—can be wished away through diplomacy or sanctions alone. His rule has caused economic collapse, massive refugee outflows, and repeated betrayal of democratic agreements. Inaction only prolongs suffering and signals weakness to other autocrats. While regime change risks chaos, coordinated international action with a clear transition plan is a pragmatic necessity to curb narco-trafficking, counter foreign encroachment, and end a deepening humanitarian crisis.
