@Meguna143 It was very flawed in terms of production but it acknowledged the prequel's depiction of the Jedi in a way that could allow the franchise to tell interesting stories and the fandom hated it because at some point everyone decided it's good that Jedi abduct children.

@470bce @Meguna143 The immaculate birth of Anakin (and the entire chosen one bullshit) was a terrible decision by Lucas and the Acolyte at least made it a little bit interesting.

@BOyster922 @electionsjoe Trump's appeal to the voter is that no one has faith in the system that elites worship and also he faces an impossibly incompetent, nonexistent opposition party.

@electionsjoe Trumps appeal to the voter is that he leaves red states alone and doesn’t use much federal force domestically outside of inner cities. The reverse action of a Democrat trying to go after rural would backlash back to GOP supermajorities. He’s neutering fed power.

So, I took multiple classes on Moby-Dick as an undergrad & one of the first things you learn is that Ishmael is NOT his name; it’s an allusion to Ishmael from the Book of Genesis (the exiled son of Abraham, of whom it was prophesied, “His hand shall be against every man, and every man’s hand against him”). The narrator imagines himself an outcast, rejected by society & forced to seek his destiny on the high seas. His self-understanding is beautifully transformed during the scene in which he shares a bed with the cannibal harpooner Queequeg, who becomes his bosom friend. As his heart softens, he writes, “I felt a melting in me. No more my splintered heart and maddened hand were turned against the wolfish world.” Love has come to redeem him. He is Ishmael no more.

I sincerely believe those of us who got Bari right back when she was still a Times editor are owed apologies from the many, many mainstream media elites who treated her as a friend and a peer. They all know who they are. They all got played and now she’s richer than all of them.

NEW: Sharyn Alfonsi goes scorched earth on Bari Weiss: "Over the weekend, my contract with CBS News expired, drawing to a close nearly twenty years with the network, including more than a decade at 60 Minutes. Following an intense editorial dispute over our CECOT story, repeated attempts by my representation to establish a path forward were met with absolute silence from network executives. The message could not be clearer: my time at 60 Minutes is apparently over. In the coming days, network leadership may attempt to hide behind corporate euphemisms like "modernization" and “restructuring” to explain away my departure. Don't be misled. This was not a routine corporate transition; it was a deliberate choice to penalize a journalist for refusing to sanitize factually accurate reporting, and it sends a chilling message to the entire newsroom. Fearless, independent reporting has always been the defining standard at 60 Minutes. Today, CBS management is abandoning that mission, choosing access journalism over accountability and protecting power rather than scrutinizing it. The wall between editorial independence and corporate interest at CBS is being methodically torn down. Journalists willing to challenge authority are being pushed aside in favor of those who will not. If this continues, the result will be a broadcast that looks like 60 Minutes but lacks the courage and character to produce journalism that matters. To my colleagues, who became family - working beside you has been the privilege of a lifetime. You are second to none. I’ve learned exactly what it costs to hold the line right now. Hold it anyway. Viewers and the people who trust us with their stories deserve nothing less." Backstory: - January: puck.news/inside-bari-we… - April: puck.news/bari-weiss-pla… - May: puck.news/sharyn-alfonsi…

The postwar boom was a historical anomaly only made possible by the destruction of World War II, but its duration convinced generations that this was "normal" capitalism. In fact capitalism is now merely returning to its normal state of chronic crisis and insecurity for workers.

@KTVindicare @JboiHQ The entire first order was dumb to begin with but the idea that Kylo Ren couldn't be a compelling villain because he lost a fight is just dumb baby brain power scalling.

@Gregative @JboiHQ It's the logical outcome after you spend 2 entire movies showing how utterly incompetent and useless the First Order was. If you wanted to make a third conclusive movie using the same villains you had to actually make them seem like they were able to win. Never happened.

@JboiHQ No one, NO ONE is defending the decision to bring Palpatine back. But Kylo Ren could not be taken seriously as a main villain after he lost to Rey in both movies already. Hux was turned into a slapstick character and Phasma was a meme. The villains in the sequels sucked. Period

@JboiHQ I forgot that a large portion of Star Wars fans hate Kylo Ren because he doesn't conform to their idealized dark side power fantasy. Just a hopelessly pathetic fandom.

@zweiwalker89607 The number of times I see people say that TFA was bad but "did right by the OT characters" drives me insane. The movie fundamentally did not understand or do right by the characters.

@Pacifist_Elk @TheJakeChristie I simply don't know how to get you to understand that him removing his helmet for no reason other than he wanted Grogu to see him is rejecting his cult. Because wearing the helmet is a central tenant of the cult, which is bad. And characters repeatedly say that in the show!

I still find the most baffling story decision in The Mandalorian the show to be him encountering Mandalorians who don’t wear their helmets who seem to be fine, and that NOT end with him realizing the helmet stuff is nonsense
Bobby Wagner@bwags

The main problem with Mandalorian and Grogu is that the lead character is incredibly, famously static. You can build TV shows around static characters because the episodic format allows you to pursue satisfying B-plots. It’s harder to build movies around static characters

@wordsandsense @Ricky_Licky1 @PanasonicDX4500 1. Death in Star wars has never meant the end of a character. 2. Rey would work as a perfectly fine tether. 3. The sequels could have broken from convention and do something new that still fit the messages of Star Wars perfectly. One of those messages being people change.

@Gregative @Ricky_Licky1 @PanasonicDX4500 So he becomes a Maul, a Dooku, a Grievous, *a Palpatine*...a character who has simply thrown away his available chances and needs to be eliminated...rather than a Vader.

The best decision Rian Johnson made in TLJ was killing off the pointless Emperor knockoff so that Adam Driver’s Kyle Ren could be front and center of the new universe, so of course the first think RoS did was just bring back the Emperor.
[archer]@archer_uwu

as much as these movies sucked the way they had kylo fight was an incredible way to show his personality as much as possible, kylo was a good character stuck in a bad trilogy

@wordsandsense @Ricky_Licky1 @PanasonicDX4500 Kylo still wanted Rey to join him. Again, your arguments are just nonsensical because they all apply to Vader as well. And the idea that we need a character in universe to care about Kylo's arc just isn't how stories are told. It's irrelevant .

@Ricky_Licky1 @Gregative @PanasonicDX4500 Compare to, say, the end of ESB, where Luke had just rejected Vader's claims and offer to join him but Vader STILL visibly wanted Luke safe+with him and Luke STILL visibly responded to Vader's Force call on the Falcon & called him "father," accepting the relationship.

Rashida tlaib is a fucking moron who made Gaza suffer even more by letting Trump get elected. But in that same vein, so is Jake. Whatever he values as a Dem will we worse off under a republican senate. We need to value winning.
The okayest poster there is@ok_post_guy

Everyone on the left rushing to throw Jake Auchincloss overboard for not enthusiastically endorsing Graham Platner "because of how important the Senate is" needs to explain why they never had any smoke for Rashida Tlaib refusing to endorse Biden in 20 or Harris in 24

@Pacifist_Elk @TheJakeChristie There's a major shift in how the cult is presented between seasons 2 and 3. Pascal wasn't available to be on set and so they had to make a dramatic swerve to compensate

@Pacifist_Elk @TheJakeChristie No, he removed his helmet in front of others because he wanted Grogu to know his face. In doing so he actively rejected the cult. Not sure why I have to convince someone that the fundamentalist religious cult that's central tenant is dehumanizing its believers is bad.
