Reminder: since the transition to PPL, at least 200k home care workers have left the program due to payment issues, and >90k consumers have been pushed into costly traditional home care. DOH claims that the shift to traditional care hasn't offset "savings." Show us the money!

Question asked about so-called CDPAP savings, noting that they're not earmarked in the budget. McDonald doesn't specify where the "savings" are going but says "it's a win for all of us." Cutting off people w/ disabilities and older adults from affordable, quality home care isn’t “efficiency” or “savings.” It’s denying New Yorkers care.

Commissioner McDonald says up to $2B could shift from federal to state costs to cover health care for immigrants. New York should tax the rich to backfill federal cuts to Medicaid.

There is a difference between disability rights (rights for disabled folks under the law) & disability justice (nuanced, intersectional, sociopolitical culturally-led access, equity, community care & celebration that disrupts & reframes). The two should not be conflated.

Whenever you see a media outlet calling Alice a disability rights activist, please know that the wording suggests she advocated within the law. No. She fought for full equity and a full changing of society to one that does not legislate poverty, disability, death, access, etc
