If it were the case that they didn't have the money to pay up, it's understandable. Bro, they have the money, they have massive funding. Why not just pay up and stop all the Ted talks? @paystack and @Andela were 2 of 2 mahn. I still remember the Andela bootcamp where guys are still doing exploits till date. Tosin is a builder, but probably not a scaler. He needs someone that should work on this next level of Moniepoint's growth. Talking about "hookup culture" like a retired beer parlour gossip isn't what is expected of a Unicorn Founder. Just chew the humble pie biko.

The concept of describing the Nigerian working class as lazy; everyone is overworked at their 9-5 and still looking for a side hustle

so this is why people have been mad, for all the arguments in support of talent shortage, this is a very callous way of making an argument. the fact is yahoo and hookup culture arent even to blame. less than 1% of young nigerians are involved in these lifestyle to make such a generalized statement. Also a leader in the industry making such drivel at a forum is just giving ammunition to those who already profile nigerians as incompetent at best and fraudulent at worst and use such spurious justification to deny nigerians opportunities they are qualified for. This is disgusting

“I used to feel Nigerians are really bright. We’ve had over 500 vacancies since 2024, and we’re still struggling to find Nigerians to fill those roles. They don’t meet global standards. I blame social media, yahoo and hook up culture..” — Tosin Eniolorunda, Moniepoint CEO

When Tech Bros that you respect and have built reputable companies starts speaking publicly on issues… they will basically lose their magic… Most of them are still respected because they do not speak… it’s mystery…

Found a really good talk by @karpathy: From Vibe coding to Agentic Engineering Strongly recommend you listen to it even if passively before you sleep or on transit to your workplace. Listen to it before you use a coding tool next youtu.be/96jN2OCOfLs?si…

@OoTheNigerian I worked at Microsoft and Andela and was told at Moniepoint that I'm way over budget. This was after taking a massive pay cut after my Microsoft layoff. Tosin and co don't want to pay the requisite cost for senior talent but choose to complain.

Someone trained by Interswitch is boldly saying Nigerians are not employable. There’s a reason Mitchell Elegbe is a special Leader. He wouldn’t make such a statement in public even if that’s the case. Mitchell is a proper Elite 🫡

The matter is, I didn't even hate nor blamed my Employers; the Game is the Game. And in this Capitalism Game, Employers often pay employees just enough to make them keep body and soul together, not to flourish. I knew it, and left when I saw a better offer somewhere else.
