And the evidence against nuclear being practical/realistic solution for Australia continues….#renewables #EnergyTransition #nuclearfarce @PeterDutton_MP
Dr Paul Dorfman@dorfman_p

'Citizens Advice says #SizewellC #nuclear costs should not be paid with energy bill hikes.' 'Ministers have been urged by Citizens Advice to protect consumers from a hike in household energy bills to pay for the proposed Sizewell C power station, amid international tensions over the rising costs of nuclear projects.' 'The UK’s largest independent advice provider has raised concerns that the project in Suffolk may offer “poor value for money” and called for greater clarity on its funding, in a letter to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.' 'Estimates of the cost of Sizewell C vary wildy – from £20bn to £44bn – and a process to find international investors to join the UK government and France’s #EDF is ongoing.' theguardian.com/business/2024/…

For most younger Australians, Net Zero has become a simple proxy for one question - do you support action on climate change or not? When conservatives argue against Net Zero, they only reinforce the brand they’ve built over the past decade, a brand that, in the eyes of younger Australians, signals climate scepticism and resistance to progress. Do younger Australians believe energy prices will fall under Net Zero? No. Do they still back Net Zero as a necessary path to climate action? Yes. People can hold both views at once and still punish politicians who refuse to act. This is where some who comment on politics, play with politics or are in politics - fail. It’s not a red v blue thing here. When it comes to higher energy prices, they lay most of the blame on the former Coalition Federal Government that, in their view, dithered and delayed. Labor governments don’t get a leave pass here either - not moving fast enough and slowing projects down for political reasons. And if anyone thinks there is nothing to see here - this from our September n=5000 national sample.

If the Congo can do it…so can Australia “We need to stop emissions by electrifying everything and providing the electricity with Wind, Water and Solar (WWS), which includes onshore wind, solar photovoltaics, concentrated solar power, geothermal electricity, small hydroelectricity, and large hydroelectricity”
Mike Hudema@MikeHudema

Seven countries now generate 100% of their electricity from renewable energy: buff.ly/BsB17aj It can be done. No time to wait. #ActOnClimate #climate #energy #renewables

NEW CHART: Trump's "big beautiful bill" & other efforts to dismantle climate policy means the US will add an extra 7bn tonnes of emissions to the atmosphere from now until 2030, compared to meeting its former climate pledge under the Paris Agreement 🫠 carbonbrief.org/chart-trumps-b…

@ChristineMilne Won’t the Tasmanian owned HydroTas make more money for the TAS Government though? They’ll be able to increase their returns right?

Dean Winter says he’ll sell Tas 17% share in #Marinus to Feds and Vic. But that does not stop Tas power bills going up because the owners will seek to recoup the $5b cost from consumers in Vic and Tas. AER will decide on split but make no mistake Tas transmission costs will rise.

@RyanJones6980 @LilyDAmbrosioMP Both. They have bought actual generation producing projects outright, and they’ve brokered power purchase agreements. But mostly the later as some of the former aren’t finished yet.

@LilyDAmbrosioMP So does the SEC produce any power or does it buy energy from wholesalers and sell it to the government for no profit ?

As of today, the SEC is powering Victorian Government operations – from schools, to trains, to hospitals, to iconic sites like the NGV and more.

Consumer cost alert: what is buying social license really going to cost consumers? Is it getting out of control? VIC Gov & @AEMO_Energy (via entity TCV) increase payment to landholders = $460,000/km on a 100m-wide transmission easement traversing a farm & comes on top of the government’s $200,000 over 25 years, plus statutory payments made under the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act. Seriously???? @AlboMP @DEECA_Vic @aergovau @EnergyCharterAU
