This morning I was proud to nominate Andy Burnham to be the next Leader of the Labour Party and our next Prime Minister. It's no secret I was loyal to the PM and feared a leadership contest destabilising government would not be in the national interest. In that same spirit, I am happy to endorce Andy Burnham and play my part uniting the Labour movement behind him. I feel optimistic he will do well.

I’ve seen first-hand the difference Andy has made in Greater Manchester. He’s shown that when Labour gets on with the job, we can bring in investment, create good jobs and improve the services people rely on. Andy also has a way of connecting with people.
