The two “facts” spread in modern Orthodoxy regarding St. Augustine’s relationship with Greek are that A) he couldn’t read Greek at all, as per Fr. Panayiotis Papageorgiou, and thus couldn’t understand the Cappadocian teaching on original sin, and B) that his books were never translated into Greek until long after the schism, as per Dr. Jeannie Constantinou, and thus the East was never aware of his “errors.” In reality, St. Augustine translated select sermon passages from Sts. Basil the Great and John Chrysostom directly from Greek into Latin in his book “Against Julian”…and regarding his books being unknown in the East, here (pictured below) is what his friend and biographer Possidius of Calama wrote in his 5th-century “Life of St. Augustine.” The only relevant thing St. Augustine wrote about the Greek language, as he mentioned in his book “Confessions,” was essentially that he didn’t enjoy learning it from Homer’s books in school.

@lecternleader Lutheranism is just confused Catholicism If you want valid sacraments and authority come home to Rome

A reminder to churches that find their salvation in good reputation: Revelation 3:1–4 “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: ‘The words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. ‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy."

Another one bites the dust. Thankfully no denomination has saw fit to trademark the Cross of Christ...yet. Sorry Baptist bros. It's so over.

@LizzieMarbach He wasn’t mocking God
