@DixieReformed "you absolutely need more than two decades to be even a good Catholic janitor" when their own monks spend most of their time praying ejaculatorialy and the church fathers pushed ejaculatory, consistent prayer as the Pauline model

Rev. Appleton is a godly and faithful man whom the Lord will reward. If you cannot preach Titus 2 without women (and the Elders) in the church getting angry, then it is the women and weak Elders who need to be disciplined and not faithful ministers. And frankly Rev. Appleton is pretty mild-mannered on top of it all.

Is anyone else concerned by the reality of so few genuine conversions in our midst? Does this not suggest a withdrawal of the Holy Ghost's sensible and converting influences from our churches, our homes, and our nation? Where are the sinners crying for mercy? Where are the prodigals returning home? Where are the drunkards made sober, the fornicators made pure, the blasphemers made worshipers, and the self-righteous brought low at the foot of the cross? Such a state ought to make us mourn, fast, and weep. It ought to convict the church to humble herself before God; to repent of our prayerlessness, our worldliness, and our self-sufficiency; to wrestle with the Almighty in secret prayer and refuse to be content until the Lord again pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground. If ever there were a generation in which the absence of divine power seemed painfully evident, it is ours. Yet it need not remain so. Revival has never been manufactured by man. It descends from heaven in answer to believing, persistent prayer. God has been pleased in times past to rend the heavens and come down. Why would we not plead that He do so again? "Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?" (Psalm 85:6)

Interesting Times, etc.
Anglo-Americans invoke “shared Germanic heritage” whenever they want to claim German achievements, but rediscover a sharp ethnic boundary whenever Germans defend their own identity. Germans are interchangeable when useful and foreign when inconvenient. That is not kinship.

@caesar_beaver @MarcusGustavus I don't advertise it much because I don't want to be associated with any of the large Lutheran factions on this site, especially the Buffalos and I try to be very irenic as far as Lutherans go

On the Sabbath question, strict Westminsterian sabbatarianism is untenable. I think the Lutheran theologian Johann Gerhard is basically right in his view.

@MarcusGustavus He held that the Mosaic Sabbath was abrogated in Christ. Sunday is the resurrection shaped Lord’s Day, not the old Sabbath transferred. Ordinary activity is sinful only when it hinders worship or profanes the day’s purpose.

After careful consideration, I've decided to become more extreme in my Protestantism, and less ecumenical with Papists.

3 Things I think are helpful to consider for the Protestant biblical hermeneutic, broadly speaking: 1) Scripture interprets Scripture 2) If one's interpretation makes "one part of Scripture repugnant to another" (39 Art.), it's wrong 3) Not all of Scripture is equally perspicuous

Are there postmil Lutherans? Are there partial preterist Lutherans? My understanding is that they're all just family futurists or something.

@caesar_beaver Postmillenialism is called a "Jewish opinion" in the Augsburg Confession Article XVII. Lutherans confessionally deny postmil.

@caesar_beaver There are but there in small groups like the CLB or ALC at least for Premill. postmil is very rare but one can probably make a case for it. In my experience most Lutheran pastors are partial preterist sadly
