Sad to see what happened with the 2k league, everyone who was involved from the grassroots/pro am side had good intentions but a lack of commitment from 2k/Take 2 led to its demise.
- No intent/effort to make 2k league players popular amongst the general community/ league build not being available in game to show the skill level it took to use
- Being secretive about things and everything being behind closed doors even on ways to make the league/tournaments was a problem
- No advertising within the game really on 2kTV or anything like that just the 2kl gear and maybe one billboard in the rec
- 2K/Take2 not showing any interest in endorsing UPA/WR events or pro am in general was also concerning once the league had become established
- Fumbling the prize picks situation which would of led to mass eyes coming to the league and potential parlays with nba/wnba games
- Moving from in person majority of games as in season one to remote after Covid was the worst decision + the Washington events were laggy and delayed
- The whole situation with the NBA IP and not being able to use social media with franchises etc is another thread in itself to much to even discuss there
Take/2k also got rid of the 200k MyTEAM tournament this year, We’re down some thing like 12-18% on profits on the year compared to the rest of the industry, which led to them turning the MyTEAM mode into a casino gambling only mode and are on a mission to make back profits, micro transactions have only gotten worse in park/career too, whilst community engagement has been on a steady decline since 2K fired LD2K as community manager and replaced him with nobody. 2k have only ever cared about money and when BD got replaced with a 2k employee the writing was on the wall.
- Side not that I feel personally the NBA side of the league in most part was doing what it could to help and I can’t imagine what it would be like trying to get on the same Page as 2k/Take 2
Something to understand in business if you don’t care about your consumers/grassroots/employees your end product won’t have the result you intended, wish all the people who were involved in the 2k league the best in the future, just a perspective from someone who was been around the game along time and has seen the decline of 2K as a whole @NBA2KLeague @Sportstein @DemonJT_
