New characters can be added to a narrative but there are still character threads. Grace is the daughter of an existing character, Ark Thompson is friends with Leon, Jill and Chris are mentioned throughout Outbreak because they're the main characters of the franchise, and Chris is at the end of RE7 because he created the BSAA with Jill (and it ties into RE8 and being against blue umbrella's involvement in the BSAA)

I see the vision, but it's not Resident Evil. For a first trailer, my impression is that they're making this into generic indie horror movie, and I know he has a good reputation, but RE is not just about the horror. It's also the campiness and cheese that comes with it.
