My father grew up in the segregated South. He had to walk around to the BACK of a restaurant just to order a sandwich because he was black. THAT was Jim Crow. Not showing a photo ID to vote. You need an ID to: • Board a plane • Cash a check • Buy alcohol • Enter federal buildings But suddenly showing an ID to vote is “racist”? Give me a break. This is not civil rights. This is political theater. The Democrat Party survives by manufacturing grievance because they have nothing else to run on. Comparing voter ID laws to segregation is not just dishonest, it is insulting to the people who actually lived through Jim Crow. Asking Americans to prove they are who they say they are when they cast their vote is called common sense.

Any decent infantryman knows that feeling... When your SFC tells you to take a break and drop your rucks, and you think to yourself "Nah, I'd rather not" because you know it's more hassle than it's worth. Not just that, but your body has molded to the ruck. There is no you anymore. You are the ruck and the ruck is you. You woke up this morning at 0400HRS a 215lb corn-fed American male, but by noon you're a 325lb piece of government equipment that runs on hate and warm piss-flavored water from a knockoff Camelbak likely manufactured by prison labor. If your mother saw you in this moment she would cry over the loss of the boy she had birthed and raised. The boy who used to run and play in the back yard bare-assed in the sprinkler. She didn't give you life just for you to embrace pain and suffering. However, if your dad could see you in this moment he'd give you that subtle nod of approval. It doesn't say I love you, but it doesn't have to. More often than not it merely says "I've been there" and one day your son will too, god willing.

A long time ago, when I was a young private, all my senior NCOs were Vietnam veterans. The BN CSM and my 1SG were talking outside in front of the orderly room and a 2LT got pissy with them because they didn't snap to attention for him. The CSM told him that adults were talking and called him "boy". I nearly bit through my tongue to keep from bursting out in laughter.
