Our helicopter isn’t just used to help elephants. Mara Elephant Project’s aerial support allows us to act as a first responder in critical, life-threatening situations across the ecosystem. Over the last month, severe flooding of the Mara and Talek rivers has had devastating consequences across the ecosystem. Several safari camps were heavily impacted by rising waters. While all guests and staff had thankfully evacuated before the worst of the flooding, some individuals returned to retrieve belongings once the water had receded, believing it was safe. Within a short time, the river rapidly rose again, leaving them stranded with no way out. Our search and rescue team in the helicopter was immediately deployed, helping guide and support a safe evacuation from above. This is not the first time the Mara has faced such extreme conditions. In 2024, significant flooding caused widespread damage across the same landscape, impacting camps, infrastructure, wildlife, and local communities. These recurring events are a growing concern. Land use changes may be intensifying these extremes, affecting both how rain falls and how the land absorbs it. As these pressures continue, events like this may become more frequent and more severe. What remains constant is that when emergencies arise, whether for wildlife or people, MEP stands ready to respond.

So since we posted Bluey Huey, we were just told that the foster's home situation has changed. We have two weeks to find this guy a new foster home. (See what I wrote previously about trying to find a new foster a home once out of the shelter -VERY DIFFICULT) Bluey is currently in South Jersey, Vineland to be exact. He's an energetic boy and likes other dogs with proper intros. Did we say he's a looker? Think of Paul Newman in dog form. Since the foster's home situation is changing, that being said, if there is anyone renting an apartment in this area, she is looking for one that accepts dogs and then would be able to keep fostering him. The Trump FCC sees its job quite explicitly as the destruction of all opposition. There’s no principle or virtue here. What’s being celebrated is the destruction of any liberal principle or shared value. MAGA folks can say “well we kind of feel like you did this to us, or want to do this to us” but notice that’s not a principle. “We’re violating this rule bc we think you did” is the opposite of virtue. It’s a justification for why you can violate a virtue that you still believe should apply when the shoe is on the other foot. Virtue signaling can be annoying. But it’s being replaced with the open celebration of vice and authoritarianism. Which is so much worse.

No, NATO has helped the USA. After 9/11, NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time ever to support the US, including AWACS patrols over American airspace. In the Afghanistan War and GWOT, NATO led ISAF (2003-2014) with 42 nations contributing troops and over 1,000 allied deaths alongside US forces. US aircraft routinely use NATO ally bases like Ramstein (Germany) and Aviano (Italy) for transit, logistics, and ops to/from the European theater.
