It's more than sequelitis. Hollywood has added more and more genres to an unspoken blacklist, and either doesn't make them, or "deconstructs" them, exclusively. Westerns. Detective Films. Fantasy. Sci-Fi. You ban enough genres and pretty soon all that's left are remakes.
