As of July 1st 2024, there were 2,213 death row inmates in the United States, which means it could conceivably cost taxpayers $81,881,000,000 to execute death row inmates in the coming years. That’s $82 billion dollars we could be using to help people instead of kill them. • In California, it costs $90,000 more per person per year to house inmates on death row than those who aren’t. • A 2017 study found that the average cost of just a trial for a death penalty case was 3.2x ($110,000) more than a non-death penalty case. It doesn’t have to be this way. We need to put a stop to this madness.
