For the vast majority of Christians worldwide, that is followers of the Lamb of God, today is Christ the King Sunday. No earthly leader is needed to bring about Shalom "for my kingdom is not of this world" as Jesus told Pilate. No amount of governmental coercion & theological bullying will increase the kingdom. Only humility and service to others. Christian Nationalism etc are just more power and control ploys that do not serve a world in desperate need of compassion and God's grace.

A fallout of this year’s election is a reversal & regression in race relations gains that I’ve been a first hand witness to, & actually experienced in my 68 years of being an observer and participant in Black Baptist Church life(National Baptist Convention), and White Baptist Church life(Southern Baptist Convention). I’m glad I caught the glory days of the thawing of bad blood between the two races and conventions, & the actual intentional cooperative relationships & partnerships between the two to seek healing & reconciliation from past hurts & wounds, and the beginning & progression of working together with mutual respect and harmony towards practicing The Great Commandment and The Great Commission as fellow believers and Baptist. It was marvelous sight to behold and experience as a son of a Baptist pastor, and later as a pastor and church planter myself. From the mid 50s through the opening years of the new millennium I would label the positive, productive years of Black and White Baptist healing and growing race relations & reconciliation years. Three things happened to begin to incrementally erode the progress of the past. 1) The “conservative resurgence/fundamentalist takeover” of the SBC was cemented and secure by 2000. This facet of SBC life largely defunded, deprogrammed, dismissed, and dismantled all of the departments, personnel, programming, promotions, and scheduling, designed to improve & strengthen the racial divide & gulf, that was previously trending in the right direction. 2) The election of Obama in ‘08 reminded Black people that the SBC was largely unwilling & to affirm, embrace, and respect Black presidential leadership. 3) The support of Trump in 2016 and ‘20 & ‘24, has made it crystal clear that a large segment, perhaps the majority of the SBC views Christians that didn’t or wouldn’t vote for Trump were suspect Christians, or nonChristians. And that has become a deal breaker. More and more I’m hearing conversations that Black Baptist no longer desire space, friendship, cooperation, partnership etc., in the White Baptist circles that many of us trafficked in for 1/2 century or more, because this last election proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, that beyond similar beliefs in certain core doctrines, culturally, sociologically, and viewing solution options to National problems that impact all of America, fundamentally we aren’t the same people. Watching this incremental breakup and feelings of distancing, betrayal, and misplaced trust between the two groups of Baptist that I’ve been a part of both is painful to watch. We need a genuine, authentic, Holy Ghost revival in the land, from the north, south, east, and west. One thing is for certain, we’ll never, ever, unite around politics. We must manage to come to a place we can seek to revive broken relations for the Kingdom’s sake. But, the only hope is to rally around Christ the King.
