@georgebsocial It's funny, as it seems the "influencer on x" formula is: Post polarizing or very extreme comments -- wait for the engagement farm to come in, reply to top few with very simplistic comments. Rinse, repeat.

I'm going to block all meme / influencer / propagator accounts on X. You know the ones. They focus on a certain topic (art, cats, dogs, rock music, movies, science, tech, ai) and just spam daily with 'content'. But it's all just hollow and I'm sick of seeing the same accounts. They just exist to grow as an influencer or to monetize or get subs. It's not about them, the person but them the content spammer. I wish to follow humans and people who like things, not accounts that exist to spam content.

@georgebsocial Doesn't he get his blood changed out every few months like a quick lube shop for your car? I feel if that rumor is true, that's gotta be helping. LOL

@georgebsocial I remember in my teens digging into Turbo Pascal. Could never find a book on it locally to learn, so pivoted to learning Borland C++ that came with reference manuals two feet tall. 🤣 Those were the days....

@brianlilley @407ETR I know firsthand of someone who's Ontario Plate was duplicated and charged on the 407. I wonder if those vanity Ontario 'novelty' plates on temu are being used.... 🤔

The folks at @407ETR sent us a bill for two trips on the toll road that make no sense. I can prove my car wasn't there. I've asked them for proof via photos and they send nothing but broken files. They also say I can't dispute the charges. Anyone else have 407 horror stories?

I know its been a bit quiet lately. I've had to take some time -- As my mother has recently entered hospice with end-stage cancer. I will be back to regular updates soon, but need to focus on the family at this time. Cancer sucks. Keep in touch with your folks. Love your family. Every day is a gift.

@XorDev Folks really need to understand when to use the word fascist...I feel it's too loose nowadays. Forcible suppression of an opposition of an opposing view by using different means. Kinda like removing someone from a role? *sigh* All good @Xor, your work is inspiring. Keep it up.

@georgebsocial AI has still a far far way to go. We're in the Atari 2600 era of making games with AI. May get cool once we hit the NES era. 😎

The real litmus test here is "Good enough". We will see if AI created games (90%+ AI code), plus art, sounds and music, reach the "good enough" metric for someone to spend money on. For a $5 game, short term, I think yes. For AAA - no way, even in a decade. Maybe ;)
George Broussard@georgebsocial

I'm pro AI and think it will be a wonderful tool going forward for - everyone. Just don't look at hype videos like this (or the many "games made with Grok") as being indicative of anything more than a neat toy. I see lots of non game developers expounding crazy things about AI made games. No. For the most part, just no. It's neat that you can make simple game prototypes in AI. But the delta from that to a finished game (even a small one) is miles. Also people making games this way, will never learn to actually make games as they skip all the hard work which yields the necessary experience. But have fun! Best case, this opens the door for people with interest and they go grab Unity or Unreal and do the hard work. Just do *not* buy into the hype that this is the future or that fully AI made games will be quality (even in 5 years) and something you'd pay for. I'd bet against that for all but very simple mobile level games. And this stuff isn't putting anyone out of work except the lowest skilled developers who would likely be first on the chopping block anyway. Your best defense is knowledge, skill and ability to execute. In the future this will also include AI assistance, just like people use other tools now. I have used it myself to create or alter shaders in Unity or other small things. It's a great tool and enabler. #gamedev

@georgebsocial This is wild. I assumed in my naive younger years that this was all done digitally. Some of these pieces I would buy as a print, this is extremely cool.

@grok may be good at making Pac-Man.. ask it to build voxels, and it forgets to do a bunch. I've taken some time to see the performance difference between ChatGPT and Grok. Both don't get it right, but Grok does perform better overall and made less mistakes.

Still feeling not the greatest.... But maybe its good to take a step back. It's like the brain has reset a bit, and sudden inspiration for different games have come to me the last few days. Notebook has some cool stuff in it. Maybe its the Nyquil?

I've been resurrecting my old Ludum Dare game jam games. These were games made in the 2012-2014-ish era, on Unity 3 and 4, and no longer are able to be built in a modern Unity version. They were written in UnityScript (javascript) and some of the external assets used are gone and no longer compile (sprites, text, etc). It's been a process to figure out the best path to resurrecting them. I could just let them go and let them be lost to the Sands of Time but that just fucking bothers me, frankly. They aren't amazing, but I made them in short periods of time and under the 48 hour constraint I'm proud of them. So far I'm just deleting the deprecated assets and commenting out all sprite/text code until the game runs (in UnityScript, in Unity 2018 (the last version supporting UnityScript)). Then I go into the prefabs and insert Unity Sprite Renderer and get things displaying. Then I weed through the code and delete as much Unity Script as I can (I'm also a much better coder now than then), so the c# port process is as little as possible. In some cases I will convert all the colliders/physics to their 2D counterparts from the older 3D versions that existed before 2D. This is fiddly work. Then once in c# and on a modern Unity version, I can re-add back the menus, title screens, and whatever text. Then I will sweep through a game and improve art, gameplay mechanics, etc, and basically re-master them. They will still be smallish games, but with better production values, and maybe some better design (or just make the games a bit longer (some just ended after a few levels)). They were originally made in 48 hours after all and the struggle was with development and implementation more than design and art, both of which suffered being done last! Of 13 games, about 6 were in this deep old Unity busted state. The last 7 were all made on modern Unity versions (2017+) in c# and have no major issues running. They will all get art and design polish though, and some level extensions to make them longer to play. The goal would be to bundle them into a single app with a launcher screen to let you play the games. We'll see if I actually have the interest to complete it or not! I could well lose interest but I'm trying not to. It could be that I just have a burst of energy because it's freezing in Dallas and this is a good distraction, but I'm fully motivated and into it and porting the first game was 3 days, so that propels me to the next. Onward! #gamedev #programming #gamedesign

Well, I've caught some cold bug. Fantastic. Time to isolate from my kiddo (compromised immune system) -- And hopefully this passes soon. Back to coding once I'm not feeling like trash.

@georgebsocial Amen to this. I'm living through this; lost source, found, and almost every aspect was broken on import. To the point where all c# scripts had to be pulled out, curated one by one- then adjusting prefabs and shaders. I'd rather eat 20 ghost peppers in one sitting. Less pain.

The thing about keeping old projects alive is atrophy. I have a half dozen old gamejam games in Unity. The ones that are a pain to resurrect are the ones made pre Unity's internal sprite system and before they bought TextMesh Pro and did all the UI stuff with Canvas. The danger is always in external assets. These deprecate and eventually fail to compile and removing them and replacing with Unity internal stuff is a lot of tedium. So be warned when leaning too hard on external Unity assets, and also - update your project every new Unity version and fix whatever, as you go, to keep the projects alive. I let these games sit for several years until it became a big mess. #gamedev #unity3d

There is a lot of noise about game development but it comes down to one thing. Make something that resonates with players. Your only concern is to entertain people and create indelible memories. Never forget that when you're in the weeds. #gamedev #indiegames #gamedeveloper

So this is the most annoying when running through re-doing levels. For some reason it seems that Unity 5 to Unity 2022 imports terrain textures with a bunch of artifacts and errors -- Which then make the terrain look like poop. #indiedev #gamedev #IndieGameDev #Gaaahhhh
