This is just the most gross, horrific, anti aspiration envy tax of the worst kind. It would also destroy the property market. Based on average council tax payments over half of London homeowners would be worse off. Nearly 20% of homeowners across the UK would be worse off 675000 homes would see their tax double to *at least* £5000 a year. It penalises those in the South- not only have they already had to pay more for their home they’ll have paid Stamp Duty too. So it’s a higher tax and a repeat tax. It would be @andyburnham ‘s poll tax moment. It’s actually more unfair than the poll tax.
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham is strongly considering replacing council tax and stamp duty with a 0.48% annual tax on a home's current value

@RedSinceCantona What those people with aspiration, those who don’t want economic policy based on envy, those who don’t want the property market to crash, and those who have the slightest bit of economic literacy? Those kinds of people? 😀

@HowdonC @TomCantonMedia These fans of smaller clubs really do hate being fans of smaller clubs don't they 😂 Complaining about not being able to spend as much as the bigger clubs but never complaining about other even smaller clubs not being able to spend as much as them.

It’s easy for me to say, because I’m not a Villa or Newcastle fan, but I really don’t see why rules shouldn’t be put in place to stop uber rich owners coming in and spending whatever they want at any club like it’s a video game. Why shouldn’t it be related the revenues?

@HowdonC @TomCantonMedia You're right. It's outrageous that gateshead united can't match newcastle's transfer budget. If it was allowed to match it they would be able to compete with newcastle for players & a share of tyneside fans.

@TomCantonMedia Because it prevents others form competing it’s not an open market like all other businesses it’s stacked in favour of the big rich clubs forever maintaining their dominance of the market which is unfair

@TomCantonMedia @KevHughesie Because they built their revenues and commerical base at a time where there were no restrictions. Success requires expenditure, which requires revenue and back again in a loop. Nobody wants unlimited spending, but a more even playing field.

@TomCantonMedia Because they’re the richest and wealthiest clubs, who had decades of being able to operate without those rules and restrictions in place now. So they have a tremendous head start that other clubs wanting to emulate them need to match. Which they can’t.

@TomCantonMedia It’s not what exists it’s linked to revenue so some clubs can spend a lot more so it’s not competitive and can’t change for years- if there was a cap of say £200 m on transfers per year then all clubs could spend the same if they wanted and it would Make league more competitive

@steve_lowthian @TomCantonMedia And the best players would still sign for the bigger clubs. Newcastle have a natural advantage over every north east club because it is the largest city & being a one club city it gives them a decent fan base but they're never going to be the size of the largest clubs.

@LFC_Ranks @TomCantonMedia But Bournemouth will never complete for prem titles or champions League place regularly because they constantly get there best player bought from them and have to reinvest year after year,

@dfnewland09 @LFC_Ranks @TomCantonMedia Your argument boils down to the fact you're a fan of a club with a smaller fan base than larger clubs & you're unhappy about the extra revenue their larger fanbase generates. I don't see you complaining that smaller clubs can't compete with your club based on revenue though.

@TomCantonMedia Two decades of mega wealthy ownership would do for me. We can leave it here. What I usually see are Qs from people who want to know why the rules are so restrictive for the likes of Newcastle and Villa (and Forest) and when it’s pointed out exactly why, the reasons are dismissed.

The Moai were actually my first canvassing team. They've been silently judging the establishment since before it was fashionable. Vote Binface for Clacton.

Shout out to Beth Rigby, Robert Peston, Laura Kuenssberg and Chris Mason. The four witless wonders who turned a blind eye to the shady financial shenanigans of Reform UK. Although to be fair, Beth Rigby did have a go......eventually.
