@willoliver88 It does work…. Came back through the wheat as an understory. Straight white clover. Not as good as grass for travelling on but did a different job.

Grain maize is just around the corner. Clover planted early in the year, has worked well in some places. Be interesting to see how it improves harvest conditions.

@JackRobinson80 I do think there's an unmentioned and invisible tax on working width! A 6m would be less than half the price

@JackRobinson80 @HDLRunciman I also have one, but it’s a quarter of the width, but as your a mate you can have it at 20% of the Vaddy.

@HDLRunciman @_James1Phillips And when their food sources dry up, because of over predation, guess who will get the blame for falling numbers?

Spring 2024 and I’m not seeing any breeding Lapwing anywhere. This iconic bird seems to have been airbrushed from farmland across Southern England. What was once a classic #farmlandbird has now all but disappeared from the wider countryside. This is so sad 😔 What’s going on?

@_James1Phillips Lapwing were my bird of choice, 20 years ago nest everywhere. Now since the a. Crows are left unchecked and b. Badgers are also unchecked my poor lap wings don’t stand a chance. As farmers we do more than you will ever know to protect vulnerable species.

These rivers have all tested +ve for thiamethoxam since 2020 (data from Env Agency). This neonicotinoid was banned in Europe in 2018, but is allowed on sugar beet crops in UK. That is its only authorised use. Yet it is turning up in rivers all over the place... Hugely concerning.

@adam_farming I made a rake out of an old cultivator frame and used following harrow tines from a rapid… but then found I did a better job with the triple K spread straw a bit better and if you needed to drop it a bit deeper you could.

@adam_farming Why not just a triple k? Cheap quick and you can go as shallow as you like? Or change the tines to straw rake tines and just be a bit more aggressive on the grass.

This is the @riverglaven at Thornage Mill following mass soil loss to river from the @VolkerFitzUK @Orsted cable works. An ecological disaster. Spawning gravels now under >0.5 m of silt. Please stop this @EnvAgencyAnglia. I used to fish here as a little boy. I am broken by this.

Luckily only a few percent of the harvest ended up like this but it could off been 50% or more! Farmers have more options than ever not to take the risk. Do machinery manufacturers really think people will keep buying new machinery at 30-40% more than it was 10 years ago?
