Today my classmate wrote to me. She stayed to live in occupied Mariupol. I don’t condemn these people, I know how hard it is to leave your home, where you grew up and were born, and start life from scratch. It’s really difficult. She always complains to me about the occupation authorities, about the complete arbitrariness that is happening in the city, although I always ask her not to speak out so that it doesn’t threaten her safety. And to this day she doesn’t understand why they came here, just like I do. We remembered how we used to live well and how we didn’t appreciate it. Before, my only problem was the renovation of the apartment, I was always missing something, whether it was new serving dishes, which I had a lot of, there was no place to put them, or a new TV that had just gone on sale. Life was really carefree and easy then, there were plans for months ahead. And now I can't plan anything for a week of life, because it's unclear whether we'll wake up tomorrow at all and it's unknown what might happen. I still can't comprehend the full scale of the tragedy that happened. It still seems to me that I fell asleep on February 23, 2022 and am still sleeping. Although my housing survived, in Mariupol I had a two-room apartment, there were only brokens windows and little things like broken chandeliers from the shock wave, or broken tiles on the kitchen walls - but the house survived. Having taken the lives of thousands of my fellow countrymen, destroying our city - that wasn't enough for them. Now they have reached housing in which no one lives and my apartment is to become the property of the so-called "dnr", if I don't come and show the documents for the apartment, which of course I'm never going to do... it will simply be taken away and sold to some russian….or even worse, they will hand him over to some murderer for "liberating Mariupol." I'm at a loss for words. What an absurdity. Who do we live with on this planet.

#OTD, we remember the more than 20,000 Estonians, who were forcibly deported by the Soviet regime to Siberia in March 1949. Entire families and communities were erased overnight simply for being Estonian. People were driven from their homes at gunpoint, packed into cattle wagons, and sent on a brutal journey across thousands of kilometres. Many never returned. Those who did carried the trauma for the rest of their lives. 77 years later, the Russian regime continues to use the same methods, illegally deporting Ukrainians, especially children, deep into Russia, severing them from their families, their language, and their homeland. Forced labour, indoctrination, and abuse remain common tools in Russia’s arsenal. Today, we honour those who suffered in 1949 and stand with those facing similar crimes in Ukraine. Memory is a form of resistance, and remembering ensures these atrocities are neither forgotten nor repeated. Russia must be held accountable.

This is who Russia wants to kill! Meet Zgenia, a 5-year-old boy from Poltava. He is one of 12 residents injured in a Russian terrorist attack that also killed two people. Little Zgenia had to have stitches on his head and is currently in intensive care with a concussion. His grandmother was also injured, and their apartment sustained significant damage. A fundraiser was launched to help the family, and the goal of half a million hryvnias was reached in less than a day! Wishing little Zgenia and his grandmother a speedy recovery! 🙏
