“We will deploy the $9 billion on opportunities where the downside is limited and there’s a lot of upside.” That’s a quote that came to mind yesterday, so I went to double-check eBay’s financials to evaluate whether the company is in deep value territory or not. And….It’s not. $EBAY trades near ATH at $104, and last Friday, after the WSJ headline, reached a new ATH in after-hours at $119.5. With the current PPS of $104, the market cap is $46.2B, adding the net debt of $4.88B, the Enterprise Value is $51.08B and with a current EBITDA of $2.99B, the market is pricing the company at 17x EV/EBITDA. I won’t use the P/E ratio here since eBay’s massive share buyback program distorts EPS, so the current P/E of 24x would be higher without it. From the numbers above, you can easily see that rather than a company with limited downside and a lot of upside, it’s quite the opposite from a pure market valuation standpoint. But maybe he wants to pull the trigger and buy a 20% controlling stake in $EBAY (credit: @foxenflask for the thesis) for now, waiting for a market correction to scale up his equity beyond the 51% threshold I discussed in my article, once prices are lower. IF the eBay acquisition announcement is confirmed, I think what Cohen himself defines as “limited downside” goes beyond pure numbers. It lies in the assumption that eBay is a consolidated business with a large, loyal consumer base, and the market perception is simply “eBay keeps doing what it has always done for decades.” IF the news is confirmed, I think Ryan Cohen saw something huge, an unexpressed potential that a sleepy management has been unable to unlock. So: - “Limited downside” to me means: consolidated business, stable cash flow, large and loyal consumer base. - “Lot of upside”: the wild card Cohen is about to play to unleash a massive hidden potential yet to be discovered. But again — I’m just learning out loud and sharing my very naive opinion. I’m stupid, nothing I said is FA. I’m just having fun learning by doing and sharing my dumb opinions.

I hate to say that this $EBAY deal is starting to look worse and worse, and could just be an excuse to dilute GameStop shareholders. There’s 20 or 30 different companies that would be a much better acquisition for GameStop at these levels without a huge dilution occurring. $BBY Best Buy is one of them. Everybody seems to be under the impression that eBay is just gonna let Ryan Cohen walk in and take over the Board of Directors 🤣 I guarantee you eBay has special protections in place to prevent hostile takeovers …

The number of people trolling $GME on this potential $EBAY acquisition, thinking it’s still just a meme stock and wondering how they would finance the deal, is mind-blowing to me. Have you not been paying attention to what this company has become?

@jeremyct I made millions and lost millions in crypto felt like I was just spinning my wheels the whole time. Although it thought me how to properly trade as I am now a couple of years in of 6 figures profits in the stock market.

everyone i know who made real money in crypto did it before 2017 and even they couldn’t escape it cleanly half of them held through the top waiting for more watched 7 figures become 6 then 5 then nothing the other half got out early enough but couldn’t go back to normal life so they moved to thailand or vietnam living quietly off interest never talking about crypto anymore like veterans who don’t discuss the war the ones still here grinding still calling bottoms still posting charts are the ones who never had enough to leave or never had the discipline to stop there are no more success stories coming out of this space

@IAmOnXToSee @RagnarRiese I got the same email, so happy they are removing this stupid day trading rule , I literally trade less because of it . Should be interesting to see if markets get more volatile after new rule goes into effect 🤔

I'd recommend one other thing as a consideration before you sell. The PDT rule will be eliminated and adopted by some brokerages in June. I got an e-mail from E-Trade on April 30th. Some text copied and paster for you; The updated rule goes into effect on June 4, 2026 (the "Effective Date"). Although financial firms have up to 18 months for implementation (through October 20, 2027), E*TRADE expects to implement changes to align with the new requirements shortly after the Effective Date. Some new investors will be hopping in and out of trades making this especially volatile. Who knows what can happen with this in effect?
