@TexasPundit @sbellsnyder Oh no! You can't take trips?! I am so sorry for that. We have 5 boys. 4 of them have Autism. We homeschool and have for over 17 years. One income family. We sacrifice a lot! Because we CHOSE to. We don't expect anyone to pay for trips for us. That's a privilege. Not a right.

@sbellsnyder “Taking tax dollars” umm no we pay taxes same as anyone else. We are forced to use private school option because the public schools are horrendous. So we sacrifice a lot. 2 kids, 12 years. 20K a year out of pocket js a lot of trips we dont take.

There are 5.5 million eligible students in Texas, and this number represents 5% "demand," Ya'll. This was a $1B program built for a few already entitled families, not the masses of Texas families, which is exactly what many conservative moms said it would be. #txlege

It’s official: a record-breaking launch for education freedom in Texas! Next: award notices in April, funding in July—after thorough review to protect taxpayer dollars.

@RC_177 @jshoreboston @GregAbbott_TX @TXGOPCaucus Those polls were skewed because of the wording. This wasn't even a priority for the RPT. So many Republicans have seen the bait and switch and know this is not even close to what the proposition said or what was agreed on at the RPT convention.

@HSAutismLife @jshoreboston @GregAbbott_TX @TXGOPCaucus And the Republican proposition is in essence what ESAs are. Open to all Texans. Money follows the student. So the proposition vote is just another example of Texans supporting school choice. Not to mention the dozens of public polls that showed overwhelming support statewide.

@RC_177 @jshoreboston @GregAbbott_TX @TXGOPCaucus And again, no they did not. The proposition was for money follows the child. The RPT plank was money follows the child. This is not that! Vouchers are not that. When the wording is changed to suit whatever bill the governor wants passed, that is not the people voting on it.

@RC_177 @jshoreboston @GregAbbott_TX @TXGOPCaucus No, Texans did not. Republican voters voted for a proposition that was only on their ballot for money following the child. That is not vouchers. What we have now are vouchers. So again, no Texans did not vote for vouchers.

@JeramyKitchen @avgtex @travispillow @txcomptroller Wow! Those who can afford it? Do you know homeschool families at all? The majority of us are one income families who make sacrifices in order to homeschool. We are not rich. Now, we get to pay for homeschooling, public, and private schools. More money away from our families.

This is great news, but it also underscores why #txlege MUST deliver TRUE universal school choice next session. No more half-measures or “hold harmless” funding for schools losing enrollment. You can’t claim to challenge a monopoly while simultaneously increasing its funding, especially with many schools reporting declining enrollments.
Texas Comptroller@txcomptroller

🚨 FINAL COUNT IS IN 🚨 Texas families showed up in a BIG way. 274,183 applications submitted for Texas Education Freedom Accounts. This is more than a number. A movement built by families. Driven by choice. Powered by opportunity. #learnyourwayTX

@TPPF Your fake outrage is pathetic. You knew exactly what would happen. You chose to ignore it. You don't get to be upset about what you helped create.

@OddRoad21 @Hollie_Plemons She doesn't hate the 1st Amendment. If you read all of her info, she doesn't believe that public money (govt money) should be funding any of the private schools regardless of whatever religion they are or aren't. She knows we already have choice. She has always said that.

@Hollie_Plemons I'm sorry you hate the 1st Amendment. The government cannot exclude other religions and only allow Christian schools. The real truth is, this wasn't "school choice" because we already have educational freedom and choices here in Texas.

I’m gonna say it again. I personally told every single lawmaker in Austin this would happen. I told the committee during the hearing that I was POSITIVE most Republican voters do not want to fund Islamic private schools nor wicken or LGBTQ private schools. Instead of addressing this issue or changing the bill to a tax exemption that would not fund the above types of schools with anyone’s tax dollars but the parents own they did NOTHING. The fix was in, they voted yes so Jeff Yass could quadruple his donation to Abbott back to him every single year off the backs of taxpayers. ZERO R’s coming back to the Capitol next session stood up for their Republican constituents. Voters, you need to get vocal with candidates & electeds. You must draw a line in the sand, if they don’t vote to end the program then they won’t get your support. It is a TOTAL scam on all Texans, it DOES ruin private schools, it does NOT help anyone more than it hurts them & truly it hurts every single Texan. There should be hell to pay over this program & their “yes” votes because this is the grossest abuse of we the people I have ever seen. Another thing to note, I am not a racist for not wanting to fund a religion other than my own. I don’t want the government funding my religion at all. I am not picking on any group or religion, I simply pointed out a fact and I was right, R voters do not want to fund Islamic schools. Funny thing is, we already do via the charter school network Harmony that R politicians love to expand, promote & praise. It’s election season & the lawmakers are using the “muslim invasion” narrative to try & manipulate voters that they are against it, that they will do something to stop it. They won’t. They didn’t. They knowingly expanded it for donors. It’s all theater. texastribune.org/2026/03/02/tex…

@Hollie_Plemons I didn't agree with the vouchers. Now, I am laughing at all the racists angry because ALL religions and non religion are included. We should only fund public schools. So many are shutting down, but I guess that was the goal??

@Hollie_Plemons I do know that Jackie was instrumental in getting bills written this last season. Others were not, but they still posted like they were and used, as someone else called it, "smoke and mirrors" to get people to donate to them.

One of them is lying & there are court documents available to prove who is lying…….the docs are in the link if you want to read them. What still baffles me is the amount of lies that goes on in politics even on the ultra micro level like with just politically involved people, activists & precinct chairs. Some people just straight up lie to your face when even they know you know they are lying all to protect a politician. This Texas primary season has been called “the most brutal ever” by so many people I know. I definitely feel that. I’ve watched a lot of people I called friends sell out to the agenda & stab me in my back & in my face. I’m not alone. So many lies going around, it’s overwhelming & then these two groups back at it calling each other liar. Maybe I’ll read the court documents tomorrow & see what this is all about but until then, be careful out there…..people have done lost their damn minds.

@RohdeKari @nickitruesdell This isn't money following the child. Taxpayers will now be paying for public and private schools. The government doesn't see it as our money. Once we pay our taxes, they see it as theirs. Vouchers aren't a tax credit.

@nickitruesdell It’s not government money. It’s our money. Right now I pay massive property taxes and a large portion goes to public schools. I would simply like the money to follow the child so our family isn’t paying twice. Once to a public school and again to homeschool.

How does school choice relate to the Post Office? If you work for the U.S. Postal Service, you get a uniform allowance each year. Sounds great, right? Free money for your clothes, rain gear, shoes, hats, etc. But you can't just shop anywhere. You must buy your items from pre-approved vendors (union-made). The prices are high, even ridiculous. You could buy your shoes elsewhere, and get a better deal, but you'd have to purchase out-of-pocket. When you've been getting the "free" shoes, it's harder to make your own choice with your own money. The approved vendors are sitting pretty. They have built-in customers. The customers have fewer choices, but since it's "free," it seems beneficial. In homeschooling, if you get an ESA or voucher, the "free" school books, iPads, music lessons, and therapy sound great, right? And this is where time will tell the story. In some states, you can still shop anywhere. In others, you must shop from approved vendors. (I predict - no, I know - that every ESA program will become "approved vendors" only.) Prices are going up for the ESA homeschoolers, because the approved vendors have built-in customers. And because of that, they can raise their prices. It's easier to spend more money on something when it wasn't your money to begin with. The parents could purchase certain things out-of-pocket, but why would they do that when they can get their items for "free?" It's the same with many programs funded by government. What the government funds, the government runs. Just say no to vouchers for homeschooling. nickitruesdell.com/school-voucher…
