@ruima @violazhouyi I think calling it "STEM pool" still understates the scale. It a whole-society drive, coming from the recognition that our century of humiliation was mainly caused by falling behind in industry, science and technology.

Must read new piece from @violazhouyi, informative and entertaining. Some quotes: "In the software era, Chinese engineers played supporting roles. In the AI era, Qing said, they’re taking center stage." "The development of AI systems, it turned out, required the exact combination of mathematical reasoning and the relentless willingness to grind that they had developed in school. Chinese scientists thrived in the field." All those years of intense focus on math, physics, and chemistry, what Chinese parents often call 数理化, are now starting to pay off in a big way with the dominance of AI (which let's face it, is a mostly math & physics adjacent domain). I don’t think the rest of the world fully understands how deep China’s STEM talent pool really is (and also what's coming, because it's only gotten MORE obsessed with these subjects). And in this era IMO, the lesson should not be to move away from STEM, but to double down on it. But let's be honest, the discrimination is still rampant -- and worsening -- against this extremely talented group: "The paranoia around China has created invisible hurdles for Chinese talent, potentially making it harder for them to secure high valuations or take leadership roles. “With a Chinese face, you are only able to show a part of your true power,” she told me. “[But] you have to believe there will be a way out.”" Investors who can identify the talent, fund them, and steer clear of geopolitical landmines (and competitive sabotage) will find themselves with incredible returns.

PRAYING FOR PROTECTION Listening to what I call « like-minded democracy talk » these days gives me full-body cringe. Like…the ick. All the high-falutin talk of sovereignty, dignity, of the right of the Taiwanese people to decide that I used to dish up myself a few years ago just makes me want to hurl now. And of all the Boba-democracy NGO-speak, the word that triggers me the most is « agency ». As in…Taiwan should have the agency to decide its future. Well, what agency do we have now as Trump makes his way to Beijing to schmooze Xi? It probably won’t happen for a bajillion reasons but everyone’s thinking about it: Would China betray Iran in return for the US delivering Taiwan to it on a silver platter? Iran’s Aragchi was able to fly to Beijing and make his case to the Chinese in person. But what can Taiwan do? Neither side will be open for a meeting with the Taiwanese govt. No…wait! Taiwan has agency! We passed a US$25 billion bill to buy US weapons that has been languishing in the legislature for six months, less than a week before the meet. That’s all the agency we’ve got. Make sure America get its protection money before the big meet. Sorry sir it wasn’t US$40 billion like you wanted but it’s all we’ve got right now. Is this freedom or dignity? Is this true agency? Or is Taiwan trapped in a twilight zone that is shrinking by the day and in denial about it?

Massive panic in Tel Aviv. Major Garrett confirms China is actively providing highly advanced military support to Iran. Benjamin Netanyahu is visibly terrified, desperately begging Beijing to stop arming Tehran. Zionist regime realizes their regional dominance is collapsing.

A Christian pastor has been imprisoned in China since October. He committed no crime. He was jailed for worshiping God. Trump is right to raise his case with Xi. The contrast couldn't be starker: one nation guarantees the freedom to worship, the other jails you for it.
Julia Manchester@JuliaManch

NEW: President Trump told me he will bring up the imprisonment of Christian Pastor Ezra Jin to Chinese President Xi during his trip to Beijing next week. “I’ll bring it up,” he said. Jin has been imprisoned since October. Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the mass detention of Jin and dozens of other members of Zion Church.

@D162Michele These women grew up marinated in the decadent American culture of the last few decades. It's a good thing they only want to date white men. Asian men better seek mates with traditional family values back in home countries. I am an Asian father and that's my main wish for my son.

To tell the truth I the the ppl having a cow about birth rates now are over worrying as much as the ppl who worried about the birth rate being too high. It’s fine. Automate. Hold the line against excessive immigration. With AI and robotics you lot of labor supply destruction is probably also baked into the cake. Having less mouths to feed might ultimately end up being a blessing. We don’t know.
Mabel@MabelMatsumoto

@MrBig2024 @AngelicaOung Relax, there were only 500 million of us at the founding of the PRC. Why are we always so nervous about population issues? Forgot the days of overpopulation concerns in China? And none of the dads around me who have done more than half of the parenting work wants a second child.

@DanCollins2011 Some Americans still remember Pearl Harbor, but most don't know Corregidor and Bataan Death March. Why are these events hidden from our consciousness? Chinese use their sufferings as national glue and driver, we'd rather forget anything that would cause us any discomfort.

Peak Japan Empire WW2. Interesting “what if” of history. Japan invaded China in 1931. The U.S told the Japanese to not invade Indochina. They did anyway. The embargo happens, we get Pearl Harbor. You know the story. But what if Japan didn’t over-expand and stopped with the consolidation of NE China? Similar to Hitler if he had stopped in Ukraine and just consolidated Europe. The war to liberate China would have gone on for many more years. How long would it have taken to push Japan out? Assume America and Russia was not fighting Japan.

来源:知乎博主 李博杰 侵权联系删 arxiv.org/pdf/2604.24827
