Prof. @isabellemahe1 presents API-CAT at #ACC2025, published in @NEJM Extended anticoagulation with reduced-dose apixaban is noninferior to full-dose for preventing recurrent VTE, with less clinically relevant bleeding 🩸in patients with cancer. nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

Very pleased to be involved with this project that is the first step on the ladder to interventional studies that can improve the experience of women who develop VTE and need anticoagulation. DON'T STOP COC IN WOMEN WITH ACUTE VTE ON ANTICOAGULATION!

Publication alert📣 If you are a clinician looking after individuals on anticoagulation at child bearing age, please make sure HMB is addressed. A major problem with very little data on its management! Watch the space for upcoming clinical trials.@ThrombosisRese1 @HaemSTAR_UK

So right. Whilst AI is inevitable in healthcare…we first need to get the basics right. Computers that work and primary and secondary care databases that talk to each other are necessary bedrocks.
Kamran Abbasi@KamranAbbasi

“No tech entrepreneur, no early adopter of AI, wants to talk about solving life’s boring problems. The tech dream is transformational and aspirational.” Serendipitously timed for a global IT outage, here I argue in praise of boring AI @bmj_latest bmj.com/content/386/bm…

We don't need to debate whether it's better to be a generalist or a specialist. The world needs both. Specialists excel at zooming in. They see the details to deepen our knowledge. Generalists excel at zooming out. They see around corners to broaden our view.

@bmj_latest So much evidence behind such a simple and safe intervention. Thank you for writing this Ian Roberts and @CHToh1. All haematologists should be advocates of TxA with surgical colleagues. Saddened that even with such great evidence, influencing change can be so slow.

Tranexamic acid safely reduces surgical bleeding and the need for blood transfusion. Greater use of tranexamic acid in surgery is important, especially in low and middle income settings where blood stocks are lower and risks higher, says Analysis bmj.com/content/385/bm…

Are you a clinician who sees patients with secondary polycythaemia? Are you frustrated by the lack of an evidence base for treating these patients? Does your practise differ from your colleagues when treating these patients?

thelancet.com/journals/laneu… Yassi et al. Lancet Neurology 2024. Behind a paywall and I can't see how the study was powered. Headline results: Tranexamic Acid doesn't prevent haematoma expansion / improve functional status or mortality after ICH. But very small study with v wide CIs.
