Under the UPA, Bastar was synonymous with Maoist violence, fear and a broken education system. The idea of children learning in their own tribal languages across thousands of schools would have seemed unimaginable. Today, under the double-engine government, over 2.6 lakh students in 6,937 schools are being taught through a multilingual education model in nine local tribal languages, making classrooms more inclusive and improving learning outcomes. This is the Modi government’s model of development, bringing peace & preserving tribal identity.

नरवीर बाजीप्रभू देशपांडे हे स्वामिनिष्ठा, त्याग आणि पराक्रमाचे सर्वोच्च उदाहरण होते. त्यांचा जन्म अंदाजे इ.स. १६१५ मध्ये हिरडस मावळातील सिंध येथे झाला. सह्याद्रीत वाढल्यामुळे त्यांना युद्धकला, शस्त्रविद्या आणि दुर्गम डोंगरवाटांचे उत्कृष्ट ज्ञान लाभले. रोहिडा परिसरातील बांदल देशमुखांकडे दिवाण म्हणून कार्य केल्यानंतर बाजीप्रभू शिवरायांच्या सेवेत दाखल झाले. त्यांच्या निष्ठा, शौर्य, रणकौशल्य आणि नेतृत्वामुळे ते महाराजांचे विश्वासू सहकारी बनले. अफझलखानवधानंतर आदिलशाहीने सिद्दी जौहरला पन्हाळगडावर मोठ्या फौजेनिशी पाठवले. सिद्दी जौहरने पन्हाळगडाला कडक वेढा घातला. शिवाजी महाराजांनी दूरदृष्टीने गडावरच राहून त्याला तेथेच गुंतवून ठेवले आणि स्वराज्यावर दुहेरी संकट येण्यापासून बचाव केला. नेताजी पालकरांचे प्रयत्न अपयशी ठरल्यानंतर शिवाजी महाराजांनी गुप्त मार्गाने विशाळगडावर जाण्याची योजना आखली.
आषाढ वद्य प्रतिपदेच्या अंधाऱ्या, मुसळधार पावसाच्या रात्री छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज सुमारे सहाशे निवडक मावळ्यांसह पन्हाळगडातून गुप्तपणे बाहेर पडले. महाराज आणि मावळे डोंगर, दऱ्या, जंगल, चिखल व ओढ्यांतून जीवघेणा प्रवास करत विशाळगडाकडे वाटचाल करत राहिले. काही वेळातच सिद्दी जौहरला महाराज निसटल्याचे समजताच त्याने सिद्दी मसूद, फाजलखान व इतर सरदारांना मोठ्या फौजेसह पाठलागासाठी पाठवले. महाराजांना सुरक्षितपणे विशाळगडावर पोहोचवणे हेच सर्वांचे एकमेव ध्येय होते. सिद्दी मसूदचे सैन्य वेगाने जवळ येत असल्याची बातमी मिळाली. गजापूरजवळील अरुंद घोडखिंड संरक्षणासाठी अत्यंत अनुकूल होती. याच भौगोलिक फायद्याचा विचार करून बाजीप्रभूंनी महाराजांना अर्धे सैन्य घेऊन विशाळगडाकडे जाण्याची विनंती केली तर उर्वरित मावळ्यांसह शत्रूला खिंडीत रोखून धरण्याचा निर्धार केला. बाजीप्रभूंनी महाराजांना विशाळगडावर पोहोचल्यानंतर तीन तोफांचे बार काढण्यास सांगितले आणि तो आवाज ऐकेपर्यंत शत्रूला खिंड ओलांडू देणार नाही असा निर्धार व्यक्त केला. परिस्थितीचे गांभीर्य ओळखून शिवाजी महाराजांनी बाजीप्रभूंचा प्रस्ताव स्वीकारला. महाराज निवडक मावळ्यांसह विशाळगडाकडे रवाना झाले तर बाजीप्रभूंनी उर्वरित बांदल मावळ्यांसह घोडखिंडीत मोर्चा सांभाळला.
बाजीप्रभूंनी खिंडीच्या भौगोलिक रचनेचा लाभ घेत मावळ्यांची प्रभावी मोर्चेबांधणी करून शत्रूवर चारही बाजूंनी हल्ला करण्याची योजना आखली. लवकरच सिद्दी मसूदचे हजारो सैनिक घोडखिंडीत पोहोचले. मोजक्या मावळ्यांसह बाजीप्रभूंनी अदम्य धैर्याने त्यांचा सामना केला. शत्रू खिंडीत शिरताच मावळ्यांनी दगड, बाण आणि बंदुकांच्या माऱ्याने जोरदार हल्ला चढवला. अरुंद खिंडीमुळे विजापुरी सैन्याची संख्याबळाची ताकद निष्प्रभ ठरली आणि त्यांची मोठी हानी झाली. युद्ध अधिक भीषण होत गेले. शत्रूचे वारंवार हल्ले परतवताना अनेक मावळे वीरगतीला प्राप्त झाले. या लढाईत बाजीप्रभू अद्वितीय शौर्य दाखवत शत्रूवर तुटून पडले. फुलाजीप्रभू देशपांडेही शौर्याने लढत वीरमरण पावले. भावाच्या बलिदानानंतरही बाजीप्रभूंनी व्यक्तिगत दुःख बाजूला ठेवून स्वराज्यासाठी लढा अखेरपर्यंत सुरू ठेवला. अनेक तासांच्या भीषण युद्धानंतर मावळ्यांची संख्या आणि शस्त्रसामुग्री कमी होत गेली.
दरम्यान शिवाजी महाराजांनाही विशाळगडाजवळ सुर्वे आणि जसवंतराव दळवी यांच्या फौजांचा सामना करावा लागला. संघर्ष करत त्यांनी मार्ग मोकळा केला आणि अखेरीस विशाळगडाच्या दिशेने पुढे सरकले. घोडखिंडीत भीषण युद्ध सुरूच होते. अनेक जखमा होऊनही बाजीप्रभूंनी रणभूमी सोडली नाही. विशाळगडावरून तोफांचा संकेत मिळेपर्यंत त्यांनी शत्रूला रोखून धरण्याचा निर्धार कायम ठेवला. अखेरीस विशाळगडावरून तोफांचे बार घुमले आणि शिवाजी महाराज सुरक्षित पोहोचल्याची खात्री बाजीप्रभूंना झाली. कर्तव्यपूर्तीचे समाधान मनात बाळगून त्यांनी रणभूमीवरच प्राणार्पण केले. घोडखिंड स्वामिनिष्ठा व बलिदानाचे प्रतीक बनली आणि छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी तिला पुढे "पावनखिंड" हे नाव दिले.
बाजीप्रभूंच्या वीरमरणाची बातमी समजताच शिवाजी महाराजांना अतिशय दुःख झाले. शिवाजी महाराजांनी बाजीप्रभूंच्या कुटुंबाचे सांत्वन करून त्यांच्या सन्मानाची आणि उपजीविकेची व्यवस्था केली. ज्येष्ठ पुत्र बाबाजी यांना सरदारी देण्यात आली तर इतर कुटुंबीयांनाही मानमरातब व आर्थिक आधार प्रदान करण्यात आला. बांदल मावळ्यांच्या अद्वितीय पराक्रमाची दखल घेत शिवाजी महाराजांनी बांदल घराण्याला विशेष सन्मान बहाल केला. त्यांना "तरवारीच्या पहिल्या पानाचा मान" देण्यात आला जो त्यांच्या शौर्याचा सर्वोच्च गौरव मानला जातो.

Their interim report mention caste 86 times. Final report will recommend draconian provisions to divide Hindu students.
