Traffic Crash/Patrol Car Struck: 05/17 at 12:10 a.m. Location: Eastbound Davison near Second Ave., Highland Park Synopsis: The Detroit Regional Communication Center was notified of a crash involving a motorcycle. When troopers arrived on scene the found and 30 year old male (Clawson) motorcycle operator on the ground near a downed motorcycle. ***Preliminary Investigation*** There was a previous crash that had occurred where the driver of a passenger car lost control, struck the median wall, and came to rest blocking the left lane of westbound Davison. The motorcyclist was traveling in the left lane of the Davison and was unable to avoid the blocking vehicle, subsequently striking it. The rider was unresponsive, but breathing. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. While troopers were investigating the crash the driver of a Chevy Malibu struck a fully marked patrol car that was blocking lanes protecting troopers working on the scene. The patrol car was unoccupied when it was hit. Troopers made contact with the driver who showed signs of impairment. During the drivers arrest he became combative and was eventually taken into custody. Pends prosecutor review. “Once the driver was placed under arrest, he was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw.” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “This is the second day in a row that one of our patrol cars have been hit by a impaired driver. Fortunately, no one was hurt in either crash. As I have said many times before, there is never a reason to drive impaired, ever.”
