@QuetzalPhoenix What self esteem? Japanese are a conquered and occupied people since world war 2.

I said this before, but I think a big understated reason for Japan's self esteem is knowing they conquered China, that's like every Asian's dream that's literally the East Asia win condition and it's basically just Genghis Khan and Hirohito.

@alreadydawn I’ve been thinking, they’ve copied almost everything Singapore except for these small details. Like how are they so good at national policy but so bad at the nitty gritty? Spitting used to be a problem in Singapore too in the 89’s but fines are handed and it stopped.

This might seem like an crazy statement, but PRC citiens enjoy *way too much* freedom. From scooters running red lights and hogging sidewalks to taxis doing all kinds of wild maneuvers, chain-smoking in restaurants and hotels to shop staff screaming into loudspeakers raping my goddamn ears, parents beating kids in public to littering at ancient sites. It's the Wild West out here, despite the abundance of CCTVs and policemen everywhere. If only the social credit system were real. The CCP can do way more to discipline their people.

@teortaxesTex American special ops is obviously by far best in world. Most combat experience, most funding.

You have to hand it to Americans. The Commander in Chief may be a retard at his job, Hegseth is worse, but the actual combatants are competent and effective as all hell. Yes, it's heavily about the tech, but it's not just tech. They are good.
Acyn@Acyn

Trump: WE GOT HIM! He sustained injuries, but he will be just fine. The fact that we were able to pull off both of these operations, without a SINGLE American killed, or even wounded, just proves once again, that we have achieved overwhelming Air Dominance and Superiority over the Iranian skies.

@HalcyonFlames @Molson_Hart We are pretending to be Han on our national ID to avoid persecution. We don’t speak the language because mandarin is also our native tongue. People with Manchu IDs number over 10 million, the 3rd largest minority in the country. Do you even know what you’re talking about?

500 years ago both India and China were conquered by minority peoples from their north, India by the Mughals from today’s Uzbekistan and China by the Manchus from northeastern China and the border areas of Russia, North Korea, and Mongolia. Despite taking over the entirety of these great nations, relative to modern peer nations, the Mughals and Manchus have fallen out of the consciousness of both nations, having been integrated into India’s and China’s histories, almost seen as one and the same. While the Mughals and Manchus physically geographically conquered India and China, ultimately the language, culture, and sheer number of the local people conquered them.

@Molson_Hart Slight difference: the successor state of Manchukuo (1932-1945) was extremely successful by all metrics and accounts. All of my grandparents remember it fondly. Way more than the ccp state. I’m ethnic manchu so my view is probably biased.

What has gone on for actually a whole century was unchallenged American industrial, military and economic dominance. "Communists"weren't even in the picture. Until about 20 years ago. Smug Americans will need more than 20 years to grok what has happened. Bad habits die hard.

@teortaxesTex Wasn't a Shijian satellite that took that photo of the Maxar satellite. Was a commercial provider just like Maxar... Jilin-1.

Shijian has significantly lower efficient resolution. Yes it's taking the photo from a longer distance, but here's Maxar seeing it from even further away. Nevertheless I think that in a year or three the gap will narrow a lot. It's… viable.

Space wars between China and US. USA Maxar satellites click pictures of Shijian 26 satellite in space and China reciprocates by Imaging Maxar satellites with Jilin-1. This mode is called Non Earth Imaging , NEI.

@C_Barraud There's no change in prediction in the article here. In the text, the doctor is emphasizing that disease control needs to focus on imported cases from overseas. Notice he's specifically used the term "global" outbreak.

Before it was: "will basically be brought under control on the Chinese mainland by the end of April." (bit.ly/2wEPp7O) ➡ It means that Chinese Cos won't probably be able to resume production (at full capacity❗) before before 3Q20. twitter.com/C_Barraud/stat…

@xuchuanmei @intewig It's clearly because of a lack of tests. I don't think doctors in either Wuhan or now New York are limiting tests just to purposely hit a high percentage... they just don't have enough tests available at the moment.

@intewig It was reported that in earlier stage of the outbreak, Drs in Wuhan to told to “ensure high positive rate”, meaning only test pts who r mostly likely to be positive. Consequently they miss many cases by testing so narrowly. I think this same mistake is being repeated in the US.

@HalcyonFlames @stewak2 I see. So that means they do one local lab test with the kit and another at a centralized location (CDC) to double-confirm?
