The Girl Generation
The Girl Generation@TheGirlGen·
Reframing the narrative on #FGM can feel complex, deeply personal, and at times difficult to navigate. We understand this because, as a programme, we have been on this journey since 2023 alongside survivors, activists, and movement leaders who continue to challenge harmful and limiting narratives. Through this process, we have developed resources with survivors of FGM to support front-line activists in understanding why reframing the narrative is both necessary and transformative. As you engage in this work, know that you are not alone. Naming FGM for what it is: #ViolenceAgainstChildren, #ChildAbuse, and a violation of the human rights of girls and women globally, can feel uncomfortable in spaces where narratives have long been shaped by stigma, politics, or external perspectives. Yet, honest and survivor-centered language is essential in advancing justice, accountability, and meaningful change. We hope these resources offer guidance, reassurance, and solidarity as you continue leading conversations that centre dignity, truth, and the voices of survivors.

We’re bringing together a powerful series of conversations, spaces to connect, reflect, and take a bold stand. Together, we reaffirm a truth we cannot ignore: FGM is a grievous form of violence against women and girls, and it must end. This is not up for debate. The rights and bodily autonomy of women and girls are non-negotiable. #FGMIsViolence #EndFGM #WD2026

SHARP Project in Kenya
SHARP Project in Kenya@ProjectSHARP·
“In the short period of the SHARP project implementation, our interventions focused on acceleration, rapid response, and sustainability.” — Dorothy Okemo, SHARP Project Coordinator One of the key sustainable outcomes has been the adoption of a support supervision tool for measuring Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) service provision. Following the use of the tool, facility teams developed a 3-month rapid implementation plan to address identified gaps and strengthen the provision of youth-friendly services. This demonstrates that impact is not only defined by the length of project implementation, but by how intentional and strategic the interventions are in achieving the outcomes we set out to deliver.👏👏 @EUinKenya @EUAmbKenya @eannaso @NANHRI40 @Mybody_Ke #SHARPProject #ASRH #AdolescentHealth

In her opening remarks at the EAC Regional Inception Meeting for the Development of the Youth Policy SRHR Implementation Roadmap 2026, AtMP CEO and also SHARP Coordinator, Ms. Okemo reiterated the devastating impact of the “triple threat” facing young people—new HIV infections, unintended teenage pregnancies, and sexual and gender-based violence, compounded further by the persistence of early marriages and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). She emphasized that these are not just health challenges, but critical barriers to the full potential and socio-economic transformation of young people across the region, as envisioned in the EAC Youth Policy. In response, Access to Medicines Platform reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Roadmap through three key lenses: ✔️Commodity Security: Ensuring the "Implementation Toolkit" we develop here addresses the availability and affordability of SRHR commodities for all youth. ✔️Youth-Led Accountability: We fully support the establishment of National Youth SRHR Implementation Committees. Leadership must belong to those who use the services. ✔️Policy Harmonization: We must bridge the gap between Ministries of Health, Ministries of Youth, and CSOs to ensure that a young person in Bujumbura or Goma has the same rights and access as one in Nairobi or Kampala

Powerful opening remarks at the Network of African Parliamentarians of Health conference where AtMP/ SHARP were invited to attend and make a key note address in session V. The consensus among the keynote speakers who included the Speaker of the national assembly of Zambia highlighted the need to prioritize #SRHR, strengthen #PHC and move toward result-based financing to build resilient #healthsystems. It was further noted that MPs are the stewards of sustainability through their role of parliamentary oversight in health budgeting and human capital. The overarching message was that investing in health was not just a cost issue but an investment in development achievable only through building resilient health systems.

Study findings from our endline #SRH commodities study on availability, affordability, and stockouts reveal a significant deterioration in access to HIV treatment, maternal medicines, contraceptives and STI treatments across Mandera, Isiolo and Marsabit counties between 2022 and 2025. The results point to a serious post-United States Agency for International Development transition crisis in Kenya. Without strong domestic financing and a clear contingency plan, hard-won gains in HIV and #maternal #health are at risk. "The biggest injustice women still face in 2026 is the lack of life-saving maternal health commodities — especially those needed to manage post-partum haemorrhage and preeclampsia, which remain among the leading causes of maternal mortality globally."- Dorothy, SHARP coordinator No woman should die because essential medicines and supplies are unavailable — particularly in public health facilities. What do you think is the biggest injustice women are still facing that is being ignored? Share your thoughts in the comments. #CSW70 #AfricaDisrupt

During the 2-day Regional Forum marking Zero Tolerance Day, Caroline Lentupuru, Commissioner of the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) offered a powerful reminder: movements don’t sustain themselves, people do. Passing the torch is about shared responsibility, learning from what has come before, and trusting the next generation to lead the future of the movement to end FGM. #ZTD2026 #PassingTheTorch #EndFGM #MyPowerMyVoice2Lead #TheGirlGen
