@wil_da_beast630 I'm pretty sure that some of this (objections to consensual rough or "unconventional" sex, enjoyment of porn, age differences) is a theory-of-mind problem, in which (again, some) people simply can't believe that others don't share their own tastes and proclivities.

@TheBrancaShow Isn't that the same dude that was just asserting that uncontrolled immigration is a net positive? I never saw him before yesterday but he's quickly rising to the top of the charts as the king of bad takes.

It's fantastic to find that apparently functional human beings can be this idiotic. Here's how it works, dummy: Dealing with the law-abiding husbands, wives, and children seeking only to travel on a commercial airline is DIFFERENT than dealing with violent third-world criminals associated with vast drug cartels who murder police and government officials as a matter of policy.

Weird how doxxing isn't a problem at airports, apparently.

@NotKyle1776 @VERBAL_CHANCLA I don't know what your damage is, unless you're stanning for this guy for some reason. I'm a proud supporter of hunting and 2A, and I could hit your mom at that distance but it would take a blunderbuss to bring her down. How's that chief?

@HamesWarner @VERBAL_CHANCLA Have you ever tried to shoot an animal? Let alone one with a brain the size of a golf ball that can, and will, eat you? I bet you couldn't shoot a piece of paper that size while standing still on a range.

@brad_polumbo Amazingly, this is one of the vanishingly rare instances that Variety likely could have written that Khelif was "identified female at birth" (due to misidentification, of course) and opted not to do so.

It's crazy how many mainstream outlets just repeat ideologically-driven, factually false claims.

@RantyAmyCurtis I used to enthusiastically read The Atlantic, where he's a writer. Now I picture the staff in a leaky lifeboat with a cup of water and half a biscuit with no rescue in sight.

When they said it was unsafe for Normies to have funerals, weddings, and Christmas parties but George Floyd got three funerals three months after we had to throw my dad in a grave.

A question for everyone: survey data suggests that by the end of the Covid-19 emergency trust in public health institutions had decreased significantly. If you are among the people who reacted that way, why specifically? I'm hoping for long, diverse, individualized answers.

@kevinjjones @matthewschmitz For many atheists, the concept of organized atheism was dead on arrival anyway. Some have an (ironic) belief without evidence that atheists are so much more rational than theists in every regard due to their having reasoned out this one thing. This is an error in thinking.

@matthewschmitz Do we know if the Elevatorgate scandal of 2011 was an enduring influence on organized atheism? Or was it just an internet thing?

@juan_llamosa @CollinRugg This rage-baiting post also failed to disclose that the guy had served 5 years (in custody) before sentencing, and that, with the jury finding him guilty on lesser charges, he essentially received time served in addition to probation.

NEW: San Francisco judge Linda Colfax has released a man who fatally assaulted an 84-year-old because the prison sentence would have a "poor impact" on him. 25-year-old Antoine Watson was granted probation just two months after he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and assault. Watson violently assaulted Vicha Ratanapakdee in 2021, which resulted in his death just two days later. He was acquitted of first-and second-degree murder charges and instead convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Colfax says Watson being in prison would have a "poor impact" on him and didn't think he should be there because he "expressed remorse," according to the SF Chronicle. Colfax is accused of hiding details from the jury in an apparent effort to help Watson escape prison time. Infuriating and evil.

I was super excited to see A New Hope. I sat there in the theater happy and flushed. Jar Jar comes out and I think, “he’s okay. Something for the kids.” And I kept trying to mentally defend him as the film went on, suffering cognitive dissonance. Finally I cracked. Hate it. Jar jar wasn’t the only problem. I just had to work so hard to defend him in my mind that when the dam burst I hated everything.
Bit Paine ⚡️@BitPaine

basically everyone who saw these movies thought the same thing: > the music slaps > the lore is good > the set pieces (lightsaber fights, space battles, pod racing) are s-tier > sfx brought us to a new era BUT > the dialogue is flat and cringe > jar jar is a cursed character

@ConceptualJames Also demonstrating an example of the friend-enemy distinction; people like Colbert enjoy Tolkien so it must be bad. Someone should ask him to do the Bible next.

A key tenet of Postmodernism is that the author's intentions are irrelevant to the meaning of the text, which is rightly located in its reader instead. In fact, hidden meanings can be extracted from the text by the reader and imputed unfalsifiably to the text and author.
