@klahoops Absolutely. It is what it is so I’m not going to stress about it since AK is finally gone. The fact that Giddey turned out to be solid is a win since he can be flipped for decent value or he stays and feeds the young players to help them develop. Not bad all things considered
English

@HammerCurlss I’m also less inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to AK on the trade because his track record otherwise was pretty abysmal, waiting too long and targeting players he liked over implementing good process. That this trade looks better now feels more like blind luck.
English

@klahoops Kings was a trade deadline offer or during the season at least. OKC was after the season ended in June. It was kings lotto that ended up 13th vs giddey. I do agree with swinging at the lotto. Ware could’ve been the pick and solved center but it was AK so no surprise he messed up
English

@HammerCurlss My recollection was the Kings had offered it at the same time as the OKC deal but I’ll have to go back and check. And from a process standpoint I’d rather get a swing in the lottery if I’m rebuilding versus a 4-year player, even if Giddey ends up being better, if that makes sense
English

@klahoops And again they were prob non lotto picks bc Caruso was expiring. The only confirmed lotto pick was the kings 13th pick that was used on Devin Carter and that was when Caruso had two years on his deal. If youre saying the bulls should’ve agreed and drafted kelel ware then I agree
English

@HammerCurlss Again, I agree generally, but in this case multiple teams were offering it and the Bulls turned them down because they liked Giddey.
English

@klahoops That’s what an expiring contract is but at the end of the day you’re right that the Bulls sold low by waiting too long to trade Caruso. But I push back that you’d get a player of Giddey’s quality + a good first. If you’re getting both a player and pick, one will be be low quality
English

@HammerCurlss I agree that it’s usually not the case, but it certainly has happened and this trade happened in June 2024, with a full year still on his contract. And I know for a fact that that other teams were offering the Bulls that and more. But the Bulls wanted Giddey specifically.
English

@klahoops Very rarely do you get a player + 1st for an expiring contract if ever. Trae Young was traded for freaking McCollum and kispert with no draft picks because he’s on an expiring contract. You’re simply asking for something that has no precedent.
English

@HammerCurlss That’s not really true. Both teams made the trade with the intent to re-sign those players, and it was important for OKC to get Caruso’s bird rights in a trade because they couldn’t sign him outright in free agency given the competition for his services.
English

@klahoops Caruso was on an expiring deal there’s no way you get a former 6th overall player + a first round pick when okc had to resign him
English

@HammerCurlss I would have liked to have Giddey and another draft pick, which is the minimum the Bulls should have gotten, in my opinion.

The Bulls are zeroing in on Timberwolves GM Matt Lloyd to be their new president of basketball operations, per @JCowleyHoops (chicago.suntimes.com/bulls/2026/05/…).
Lloyd is expected to hire Minnesota lead assistant Micah Nori as Chicago’s next head coach.
