The year was 2022. I helped a friend secure a spot at my old job. Dude was in dire need of a job and would beg me everyday to help him find one.
At the time, I was the creative lead and senior editor. We had a lot of backends because there was not enough support. I spoke with my boss and he employed my friend without asking for qualifications or even past jobs.
A few months later into the workplace, dude had made friends with everyone and was more like the top guy. He has a likeable character (I give this to him) and was overly extroverted but all of these were layered with one thing that destroyed our friendship - gossip.
Rumours started flying about in the office (info will be discussed later) and I found them baseless when a handful of friends (colleagues) came to me and informed me of such. I was always particular about my work so I paid no mind to the rumors. Also, given that this friend of mine was someone I trusted not to do such, I didn't confront him.
Days later, my boss called me to his office and asked if the talks going around were true. I told him no. The meeting was fierce and tense but I kept my cool. In my head, I was already thinking about the wordings in the letter I'd be given by the HR.
I left the boss's office a moment later and went back to my desk. All eyes were on me and silent murmurs grew like crickets in the night.
That night, I went home and cried. I cried because my reputation in the office was damaged for something I knew nothing about. I wept ooo. I wept!!!
Two days later, my boss called for a general meeting. Right at the front of everyone, he told them he had worked with me for a while and trusted me not to have done what's been spread . He said he'd done his research and found out that the accusations were baseless.
He called my friend out, handed him a sack later and told him to leave the office immediately.
Right at the spot, I cried uncontrollably. It shouldn't have been my friend. It shouldn't have been someone I trusted so much and was pushing hard to get him to have a higher pay. I gave positive reviews on his work every end of the week.
Well, today, we've become total strangers. I've blocked him across all platforms and have told myself never to have any dealings with him.
This was a betrayal from a friend I called my brother.

At my old job, a colleague reported me to my boss over a staff discussion we all took part in. We were just airing concerns about some company policies, and he was actually one of the loudest voices there.
A week later, my boss called me in. She said she’d heard everything I said and was disappointed that, as a senior staff, I’d try to “discourage” others. I was stunned — he even twisted my words and added things I never said.
That incident damaged my relationship with my boss for a long time, until I eventually left the company.
Fast forward to last month: that same ex-colleague called me asking for help because his wife was sick. I just laughed and shook my head. The audacity was wild.

A precious little soul….
Who can tell the pain of a mother sending off to the mercy of others a helpless little child, especially a girl child.
I can’t even watch or read the entire story, it too heartbreaking
